Again, Truthy, I gotta ask:

Where in the article does it mention anything about drug addiction as any contributory factor?

The Assailant is believed to be a homeless man from the area.

No evidence of that at all -- only speculation at this point.

Perhaps assumptions like this one are part of the reason that this man has not been caught yet... Ever thought of that?

It's likely a safe bet that the chance of drug addiction is a contributing factor more than it isn't.
Regardless, the person is a violent criminal.
If he's an addict he can dry out in a jail cell.
Is the world getting stupider, or is it just getting easier for stupid people to have their thoughts heard?

as much drugs in jail as on the streets I've been told.

If he is or is not an addict is not the big concern, what is troubling he does not have a problem stabbing his victims. This as :cuss: hole needs to be in custody.
