The book by George Orwell, 1984, is based on the premise of "how did we get here from there"?

By little bits at a time.

We simply MUST police our governments as they are changing laws a little at a time, eroding rights while appearing to enhance them. Immigration is a prime example along with laws governing terrorism.
Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

They are the ones who should be under 24/7 surveillance. Live feeds publicly available.

It would be like watching a Daycare.
My Wife asked me if I knew what her favorite flower was?
Apparently "Robin Hood All Purpose" was the wrong answer!

There really is no evidence to suggest the cameras don't help either - like I said, I am all for ANYTHNG that is done to try and reduce the crime. Anything, like the cameras, is better than nothing, which is what has been done so far :-X thanks to our "laws" and the lack of Judges who will actually put someone behind bars.....heaven forbid the criminals lose their rights to roam free and prey on everyone else.....

Maybe they should be active only during certain times of the day. Like 6pm to 6am.
Then those who complain "but I don't do anything" will be excluded from being photographed and those who do will.

Everyone on here who has concerns about this should be sending respectful emails to Privacy Commissioner here https://www.oipc.bc.ca/
Letting them know your concerns & opposition, again in a respectful manner.
I don't give a damn whether people/posters like me or dislike me, I'm not on earth to win any popularity contests.

So then I'm only a free person during the 6AM to 6PM window, but another time I choose to leave my home I'm not free?

How about the City put a curfew in place that no person shall be on the street between 6PM to 6AM ........ criminals convicted of crimes sometimes are under house arrest like this ..... but of course they are not 'free'.

See how this freedom thing works!

Let us know how you feel when you are out at 2 am and get mugged or your business is broken into for the 5th time this year'

Camera's are not blocking your freedom they are helping keeping you safe. They are prevalent now almost everywhere in public you go.
