Here is what bothers me, such a simple solution to a problem, instead because insurance pays for it they will go for the new tank at great expense and we wonder why ICBC is losing money!

Would full tank replacement ( no pun intended ) require deductible payment?

The spin weld fix sounds great. I hope there is little demand for it though.

Well then ICBC can go after the criminals. That is the point of insurance and simply plugging the hole does not make the person whole.

Years ago I holed the tank and did the old bush trick, chewed some gum and pushed it in the hole waited 5 mins PRESTO all good. Lasted for years.

I had a puncture in a fuel tank on one of my cars years ago ... it was leaking what little fuel I had left to make it to the nearest station. I used a bar of soap and rubbed it over the hole until it plugged it - similar to a putty stick you use to fill nail holes is baseboards or window trim. Did the trick until I could get it fixed permanently and I was all proud of myself how I "MacGyver-ed" that ...

If I ever catch an a$$hat drilling into my tank, I will make sure I use the tool on them!

Most likely cannot do this repair because of the liability. Being a fuel tank it is deemed non repairable..kind of like a hole in or close to the side wall of a tire. Can it be repaired, sure. But a tire shop would never do it.

So you'd pay for this repair yourself, to save ICBC some money?

I certainly would. Not so much to save ICBC money, to save myself some.
Also to save myself the time and energies of the process.

Easy DIY fix, more an annoyance than anything.

Yea a gas tank is hdpe, its a quick easy and inexpensive repair.
Losing the fuel would pee me off more than having to effect the repair.

If you install a drain plug, they won't have to wreck your tank again .

Only if they see it and have a crescent wrench.
Some of them are not the sharpest crayons in the box.

That's what some of them are doing. Drain your tank, plug it and wait for you to refill it.
