Oh how I miss the days of seeing & hearing large flocks of geese flying over in V formation!
Refugee geese are on the decline !
Are sea gulls next?
Just say it as it is!

Probably a good thing to keep their numbers in check. They're well adapted to human altered ecosystems and can be a real headache if they become overpopulated.

I've read all the reasons for culling and its history but no reports on the long term affect on the remaining population?

My concern is Canada geese work as bonded pairs to raise their young. It is part of their life span to do exactly that!
The destruction of their eggs creates stress and trauma for the adult birds. Will this cause behavior problems? mating seasons may be affected? illness from the stress?

Not all of the eggs are addled in the process and a couple will be left to hatch from those nests for the adults to go on with their normal rearing of young, just not a full batch. Not much different to if a coyote, fox, or other predator destroyed some eggs.

A friend along Mission Creek pointed out that there used to be dozens of goslings in the Spring. He pointed out that only a few make it to adulthood because of the predators(cats, birds, racoons, etc). Now he only sees very few goslings who don't make it to adulthood. I guess the decline of geese is a good thing for some?

Gophers are vegetarians so I doubt they are predators.
My Wife asked me if I knew what her favorite flower was?
Apparently "Robin Hood All Purpose" was the wrong answer!
