Postby bebo » Nov 17th, 2007, 3:59 pm

I want to post this question for Penticton...How do you feel about video surveillance in Penticton? :200: At places where the most traffic of people are. Main street Penticton or in the Cherrylane Mall. Many cities in Europe has that and it cuts crime down buy more then 40%.

Well I'm all for it at intersections as we have a lot of light jumpers here. Especially early in the morning. Most accidents here are a result of this. As far as activity surveliance I'm not sure of the legal complcations in terms of privacy. I guess if they erase everything except crime it's cool. :1422:

London Has more than 3 million cameras it is the most survielled city on Earth. I can't remember the exact number but it has only cut crime by something like 20% and violent crimes have seen even smaller drops.

Here is what it is coming to:

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Pentagon is developing an urban surveillance system that would use computers and thousands of cameras to track, record and analyze the movement of every vehicle in a foreign city.

MANASSAS, Va. ? The military is looking to something old as a new weapon in the war on terrorism: blimps.

The blimps wouldn't be like those that hover over football stadiums and concerts. These would be equipped with cutting-edge sensors and high-resolution cameras that could scour the landscape or oceans.

Think of it as a 200-foot-long eye in the sky.

WASHINGTON - The Homeland Security Department is considering the use of unmanned aircraft to track drug smugglers, illegal immigrants and terrorists along the porous U.S. border with Mexico, a top official told a Senate panel Tuesday.

Not everything is a conspiracy, but let’s face it: those who strive for power are also those most likely to abuse it.

This may be slightly off topic but seems to fit the surveilence society mold;

Now passengers need ID to travel within Britain

Passengers on domestic flights and ferries between mainland Britain and Northern Ireland will be required to carry identity papers for the first time from next year.

The move will effectively establish a highly controversial internal border within the UK and could pave the way for identity checks on all domestic flights and ferries in Britain.

Once operational, the system will allow the police to build up a complete picture of passenger movements between Ulster and the mainland.
