The new Chef took over two years ago and the menu he has put together is unreal. By far the best example of highly skilled highly trained cooks useing a majoraty of LOCAL meats, seafoods, and produce. They are the ONLY place in town that uses NOTHING BUT Oceanwise seafood. Sure some of the other places that have been mentioned are good. But do they focus on useing LOCAL promoting LOCAL and supporting the LOCAL farmer? I can tell you that EARLS doesnt. NONE of your fatty greasy chinese buffets care a damn about local!
As a serious foodie Here is my list of places to eat in the south O.K.
Hillside Estate Winery
Local Lounge and Grille
Naramata Heritage Inn
Burrowing Owl Winery
Cozy Bay fish n chips
Burger 55
Ill Vecchios
Copper Mug Pub
St. Germaines Bakery
Debbies Diner
The Bench
Isshin Sushi
Ginza Sushi
Navratan
Best of India
N'kmip Winery
Passa Tempo
Miradoro room @ Tinhorn Creek
Hammers House of Hog (summer in Oliver at the Bel-air motel)
Honesly I challenge some of you who suggested places like *names removed* and any buffet to ask to see the kitchen (it is your right as a customer) I can gaurantee you will be a little put off by the cleanliness of the kitchens and the lack of professionalism by the staff.
I'm sure I will be attacked for coming off as an "authority" on the matter but really some of the suggestions where so low class. I mean REALLY!!!?? someone visiting or just new to the area and your recommendation is THE FREAKING BUFFET!!!!!
Some great suggestions, some I have tried, some I haven't, some I have never heard of. I'll look forward to trying the new to me places. Somewhat of a foodie myself, and always up for something new or different.
There are two places on that list which I would consider the food low class at best.
Which ones? I would love to know... My guess.....
well to be honest I am not too sure what to guess... maybe vecchios, maybe debbies (you obviously havent been in under the new owner) maybe Cozy bay (by far the best fish nchips but thats it) other then that all th places I listed do pretty damn good food. please though enlighten me to your thoughts.

Re: Restaurant Suggestions
Can't give negative reviews based off forum rules, I can say that I have been to Cozy Bay many times, and truly enjoy their fish and chips. A friend of mine managed to eat 8 pieces in one sitting, impressive.
Vecchios is good as well, haven't gone there much though.
I guess I could say that the only place I would really consider for East Indian would be Best of India in Oliver, that place is great. We enjoyed Havelli's when it first opened, but haven't really been enough to recommend it.
The only place in town I would give my money to for Sushi is Lee's Overseas.

The Vanilla Pod in Summerland is well worth the short drive to get there. Delicious tapas and an outstanding wine list. Paul (the owner) is often waiting tables ... and the service is top-notch. We had dinner there last weekend ... the experience (food, wine, atmosphere and service) gets high marks from me!

For a big bowl of excellent Borscht with a fresh homemade bun, the restaurant at the Penticton Airport has the best in town! You get alot for cheap :spinball:

I am sitting here marvelling at my $6 lunch from the Wild Scallion takeout on Front St. It's a filling and healthy Malaysian chicken stew (curry) with potatoes and yams and rice. I've had takeout there twice and it's amazing. This is the best new restaurant Penticton has had in years.

When talking restaurants and food, you really need to check your spelling. A big bowl is so much better than a big bowel....

Anyone feel a movement coming on? Actually, I've got to go try this out. Have always made a habit out of stopping in Grand Forks at the Yale for a good bowl of borscht on the way to the Koot!
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

The Pho place(vietnamese) along the hiway in summerland is really good and really affordable. Have had take out from there a few times now and really impressed. Perfect food for the chillier weather.
The sushi place on main street (summerland)is really good sushi too - i like too that they have a vegetarian platter (which is so goood) so if you are with people that don't like sushi for the fish elements there is an alternative (and a great way to introduce people who are tentative).

I like the Bears Den for breakfast. Their lunch specials that change daily are an excellent value too!

Bubalouie.
We’ve been going back several times a year for many years and find Theo's consistently to be very good Greek food and atmosphere. Also, we’ve often seen it packed with people. I’m surprised you’d go back a few times if you didn’t like it. It is good that people have many other great choices in town!
