Well you are pretty damn wrong too. If you want to physically locate it, drive up Carmi around the switchback below the Edison house. You will then see the concrete water tank just ahead. After driving approx. 100 meters past the tank look due north and you will see a small flat area right beside a hill that has one side of it shaved off and sloped down by a bulldozer. The flat area is the site of the old dump. The material shaved off of the little hill was pushed down and over the old landfill site to increase the amount of cap on the fill site. The cap was thickened about 8 to 10 years ago.

End of story people. Accept the facts and quit speculating and spreading false rumours. If you are still unsatisfied, make a trip yourself to the planning and engineering dept at City Hall and have them point it out to you on a map. The perfectly flat landscape that is now Sendero was an old pioneer homestead (Clay or Crow??) The original farmhouse was still there until the Garnett fire took it out in 1994. They ran cattle on the mountain and the flats were the winter range. Prior to the Sendero development, traces of the barbwire fencing and cross fencing could still be seen. Further, there was also evidence of the flume network from Stewart Creek above and two watering holes that supplied the cattle with water. Virgin ground folks, not dumpsite.

After finishing that last sentence it has occurred to me why some people might think it was the old dump. For about ten years there was a quirky hermit type guy named Don that lived in the old farmhouse. He was a collector of what can only be described as junk. Old cars, farm equipment, steel pipes, old trailers........you name it, he hauled it home and stored it in rows on the property. All this crap remained after the Garnett fire and it wasn't until a Cpl of years before Sendero that Nixon Bros came in with trucks and a grapple and cleaned it all up. I suppose as they say, all legends have some basis of fact to them.

ETA- A more accurate direction of the old landfill from Sendero would be about a mile south west of Sendero as the crow flies.

The first home is under construction at Sendero Canyon and there is at least one sold sign on another lot. So here we go, finally!

Had a look today. Hard to tell how many lots have sold because it's obvious from the construction going on that they are not keeping the map up to date. Thirteen houses in various states of construction now so that is encouraging and good news for the local economy. Recent years have shown as little as 20 something single family dwelling starts per year in Penticton so these lots at reasonable prices are being recognized. And needed!

I was up there yesterday as well and was pleasantly surprised at all the building activity. I understand these are spec homes so this is showing confidence in the future of the Penticton market by those that should know.

Think you are right. The only one completely finished has people living in it and you don't pour 4 basements at once without some kind of market interest. With 12 more on the go it would seem they are being recieved quite well. There is also a few lots marked as sold without any activity on them yet.

Seventeen houses now under construction. It's actually looking like a neighbourhood.

And there were those that said Penticton did not have a residential building lot need. Twenty five homes now under construction within the last four months. Excluding land that would be approx. 5 million dollars in wages and materials in the local economy and 50k more in taxes each year to the city coffers.
