Your research Light Shine? I didn't see any links that you provided. Richard Poe, who is the self appointed spokesperson for 'Chinagate', was a regular on the Glenn Beck show during the Clinton years. When you google Chinagate ... it is only Richard Poe's writings that come up. Nuff said.

Sorry, just getting semantic on the difference between a link and a mere reference.

Yes, I looked into the background and there are indeed some shady dealings in their past. Not uncommon among high finance these days, some take the old "money is power" concept beyond the concept of ethical behavior. So what is your concern? Is it the past of the particular group or foreign investment in general? How could this go sour for the PIB and/or Penticton?

look up Property Development Group first...I put "Project" as an error
look up a man called Lawrence Rank and Lippo Bank
That said this is the way China makes its moves on Canada, not business but military, using trade and business as a front...its pure PLA. Its how the PLA and its intelligence operates outside of China with their operatives, Li Ka-Shing a classic case in point.

The PIB need to be challenged on this point; watch their reaction. Finally just because shady dealings are commonplace in high finance these days why are you suggesting we just go along with it, surely we hold a higher standard than others here. Why all the rush to sell out to Chinese Communism disguised and presented as a trade opportunity. This is a classic Trojan Horse tactic. Are we simple? Beijing is financing these "opportunities' all along the way for a foothold here. Its been done [perhaps unwittingly] in Oliver [Southwinds Crossing] and in Westbank by the same group. Even my credulity is being stretched here!

Are you saying that foreign investment is a stepping stone to political domination? I've no doubt that the PIB is bargaining way above their comfort zone, one can only hope that they've had the foresight to bring in a couple of qualified experts to guide them through, but I'm wondering what you see as the ultimate result of having Asian money invested locally?

Locally regionally or nationally, there is no comfort zone with the Communist Chinese and their zeal over conquering Canada as theirs. Communist China is looking to expand its boundaries as a form of neo-colonialism. look around the globe and you will see their moves on Africa, South America, Central America, Central Asia, Europe etc...They really desire Canada as the penultimate location. Pollution has ruined their country..its been raped beyond belief and all its resources virtually used up. Time for a move. Its wanting new territories and Canada fits the bill as the favored country. Its got everything they want and desire, for their new home.
Thats my concern Fluffy. CS IS is on track with the same notion. Richard Fadden tried to warn Canadians about it, he was muzzled, by the PM's Office.
Why aren't we given the news about the beginning of a war with japan and China in the South China Sea here. Its because the media is being shut down on the matter not to upset this trading partner. Some trading partner! Google battle in the South China Sea and you will be shocked as to what is going on right now. Will Canada go to the defense of our friends the Japanese?
Furthermore we are fed a crock of you know what over the Middle East when the real stories are coming out of China and its insurgence on the globe in all regions around the world. All we get is about the Middle East in our media!
"My Concerns" Fluffy..not only involves our sovereignty, our national security but others also, some our friends BTW like the Brits, Australians and New Zealanders.

...Non Dare Call It War

There is some sense to your perspective lightshine. I remember years ago someone referred to China saying "There lies a sleeping dragon. When it awakes it will change the world". Realistically I can see exactly what you're saying. China is a country with roughly a fifth of the world's population that is vigorously embracing the tenets of capitalism in a world driven by economics. We are living in interesting times as they say.

If this forum has any truth to it -- this should mean we'll get a terrific Chinese restaurant out of this deal.

Right? :coffeecanuck:

interesting?
isn't that a little facile?

When Napoleon was about to enter The Middle Kingdom for his next quest and conquer, Rome\the Church told him not to disturb them. They had plans for China way back even then. China has never known freedom for over 5000 years Fluffy! its been under the boot-heel of fascist dictatorship and totalitarianism over and over again. The people have been moulded to respond as it were, like robots, when instructed by the state. When talking about its military one has to understand this singular state of mind, there is no respect for any other nation on earth as they have been programmed to see themselves as immutable, the dominant nation. look up the term fenqing, you will understand how this propaganda works with their nationalistic youth, their xenophobic youth of today. They are ready for conflict and even morso, want it!

That brings to mind another old reference, one that appeared in National Lampoon Magazine. They printed a full page table that listed all the countries of the world in the first column, what you had to do to iss them off in the second column, and what they would do to retaliate in the thrid. For China the second calumn entry was "They won't say." In the third column it said "They still won't say, but it has something to do with having a billiion and a half foot soldiers".

Not facile, sarcastic. "May you live in interesting times" is actually an ancient Chinese curse.
