Re: Kidnapping on Ellis St.
There is NOT ONE among us armchair warriors who can say what we'd do if we were in this family's situation because, thank God, we've never been there. Personally, I don't know how I'd survive it. it's a nightmare that you can never wake from. I truly hope the entire family gets the professional support and counselling that they're going to need. They can never get over it, but hopefully they can find a way to live with it, and not let it consume their lives for the rest of their days.
I encourage every single one of you who have such various, yet strong opinions, to consider channeling your emotions towards good. It's obvious to all of us that we need huge changes within our criminal justice system in this province, and yes, we also truly need serious support and reform for our mentally ill. Our prisons are full of mentally ill who are often there through no real fault of their own. They didn't get the care they needed elsewhere, so they ended up in prison. We can all do our part to change the way our country is run - and vigilante justice is not an effect way to do it.
Locally... support the Transition House, The Women's Shelter, The Salvation Army, Mental Health Organizations, the Breakfast Programs at your children's schools... take your pick, there's dozens of them to choose from.
:-) Peace! :sunshine:

Good post, Tero! I agree 100% with what you had to say. It should start at home and we should support the survivor and her family as much as we can. As well as all the faceless victims that live in our community!
I'm going to head downtown and take back the streets at 5 pm today - starting in Nanaimo Square. Hope everyone will join me there. There are also a couple of good fundraisers happening today as well that I am going to attend. Every little bit helps and we all need to stand together!

It's terrifying because I had worked there part time for 2 months 2 years before this happened. He always seemed odd, but I would never had guessed he would have done this.
