Purebred puppies for sale?
I have inquired about an add posted on the web-site here about a purebred puppy for sale. Buyer beware.
After asking many questions I find out they are not purebred puppies and that the neighbours dog had a time with the female also. The puppies were ready to go but would not be given their first set of shots from the Vet., for some unknow reason, abviously they have never witnessed a little helpless puppy die from distemper or parvo. I was appauled at this.
If you cannot see the parents of the puppies, where they were brought up and the people you would be dealing with upon purchasing these little puppies for sale why bother. Also another backyard breeder said she prefers to meet somewhere and drop the puppy off, I ask why? Probably because she has many different breeds for sale and she's afraid of someone phoning her in.
Anyway, buyer beware and help put a stop to puppy mills or backyard bredders, the dogs cannot speak for themselves.
For me I will wait and maybe the right dog will come into my life, one that has had a proper up bringing and not bred just for the monies.
Many Thanx

Re: Purebred puppies for sale???
I understand your point, but remember, all those pups that you turned down still need a good home. they will not dissapear because you did not want them, they need to become part of a family and have a chance at a good life just as much as any purebred does. all my dogs have been mutts, and they have been as good as any purebred would be.

Re: Purebred puppies for sale???
Hello
Yes, I do see your point and I do Love them all and wish I had 100 acres to take them all. But the problem is that if you advertise a purebred it should be a purbred. If we keep buying these puppies from people that are not allowing us to come to their homes to view the parents and puppies what does that say about the condition the dogs may be kept in. And not giving them their 1st set of shots from a Vet., well that also says to me that the people just want the puppies out and the monies in their pockets. I have seen puppies die of distemper and parvo and it is heartbreaking, not my own of course.
Buyer beware is all I am advising this day and age. It seems there are so many puppies for sale mixed with this breed and that breed, I really feel sorry for them.
Thanx

LIke you said Debbi, buyer beware. The term "purebred" should indicate serious attention to lineage, and if the proper documentation does not accompany the animal then chances are you're dealing with someone who is just in it for the money and cares little for the animals themselves.

Re: Purebred puppies for sale???
We see notices in the paper that go something like "Pets and livestock advertised for sale as pure bred must be registerable......" Does anyone know if this is a regulation or just a publishers policy?

Couldn't agree more. My mutt is of very questionable background, but is worshipped by my neighbours who struggle try to teach their purebred. All dogs deserve a good home and owners who will take their ownership responsibilities seriously.
PS - my neighbours are great dog owners, it's just that their purebred "ain't so smart!" :127:

Re: Purebred puppies for sale?
All dogs should be Loved, fed and totally cared for in everyway. To me there is not one that is better than the other, but when they are advertised as Purebred, both parents should be in view to see. I feel the only reason for papers would be if you were going to show the dog or breed to keep a special lineage going. Even then sometimes you pay for the papers but fight to receive them in the end.
I am so concerned about a recent puppy that was purchased and the breeder met the buyer in a parking lot for the exchange. The poor little puppy stunk to high heaven, has not been socalized etc., so we know what sort of place he came from. The poor little guy has gone to a very loving home so there is hope for him. This is why I would not buy a puppy unless I seen where it was living, met the breeders, all the dogs, must have 1st shots from a Vet with a certificate.
There are so many dogs and puppies on the net for sale these days, would it have to do with the economy? Who knows, It's not just the price you pay for the dog, then there is food, medical costs and look out if something goes wrong.
Anyway, buyer beware, ask lots of questions and see for your own eyes the living condition the puppy is coming from.
I myself am still looking but will be extra cautious on my journey for the right dog, and it doesn't have to be a purbred.
Good Luck

Obviously in this case it is false advertising.

Beware of puppy mills, watched The Dog Whisperer and he went to a couple of puppy mills, not good, and anyone running a puppy mill should be shut down and the mills should be made illegal.
Nothing to see here, or is there?

Re: Purebred puppies for sale?
Hello
Yes, all puppy mills should be shut down. The problem is we feed into them if we are not smart enough to ask the right questions when we are inquiring for the said advertised puppy. Some of the conditions these puppies and dogs live in are terrible, purebred or not. If you are not allowed to go to the people's house to see and pick out your own puppy then there is a problem. Like the Lady who bought a small breed puppy from someone in Princton last week, she was given no phone #, only e-mail address and was told to meet her at a shopping mall parking lot to pick up her puppy. Then she was told that if anyone else wanted one she had lots left from a couple different litters. This Lady probably needs to be shut down and get a real job, but who is she? This is the problem.
Anyway, Buyer Beware

Re: Purebred puppies for sale?
Hello
Another problem with buying a puppy is do they have their 1st set of shots from a Vet?
I have phoned many of these adds and most say the pups have but they don't have the proof to show they have. Each puppy should come with a file card from the Vet's office saying what shots they received. One seller couldn't remember the Vet's name let alone the shot's they received but he was sure they had. Ya, right!
Anyway, my last dog I purchased from our local SPCA and we had 15 great years together, that is the route I'm going. At least I will know the dog is healthy.
Buyer Beware.

Hello
I hope anyone looking for a new puupy or dog will be as lucky as I am. I have found her, she's at the coast and she's coming home tomorrow. She's a SPCA dog, has been vet checked, spayed, 2 yrs of age and a Shepard to boot.
Good Luck to everyone out there, Buyer Beware.

Anyone buying from a puppy mill is feeding the problem. Buy from the SPCA only.
People are irresponsible and careless with animals. Love an animal for what it is, not what breed or "brand" it is. Would you give up your child if they weren't perfect? Would you give up your child if you were allergic to them?
An animal is a lifelong commitment.

You don't have to buy from the spca, there are very good breeders out there, just stay away from the mills, got my German Rottie from a very good breeder. Just do your research.

Re: Purebred puppies for sale?
Exactly. It's a little presumptuous to paint all home-breeders with the same brush. Ask pointed questions and watch the reactions, it should become apparent pretty quick whether or not someone is trying to hide things from you. There was an SUV with puppies on board at the Summerland Tim Horton's yesterday, it looked like the people were selling them off the tailgate. I wanted to stop and ask a few pointed questions myself, but time was not on my side. The "buyer beware" rule applies here as much as anywhere else.
