I've noticed at the local government level, the preferred approach has been to identify the issues, substitute the issues, study the substituted issues and suggest a solution that is immediately dismissible as too cost prohibitive.

Or put another way... Build an argument from authority, confusing association with causation, to create a false continuum that appears valid in light of the ad populum arguments that spin out of it.

Problem solved... till next time.

Yup. When municipal governments and regional districts get involved, things stagnate in the bureaucracy. There's no expertise in local government to deal with interface areas. What should be done is to return those areas to the natural grasslands and NDT4 ecosystems to support wildlife as nature intended it. Instead, we're allowing ingrowth and exponentially increasing the fire hazard. Thinning and controlled burns = the right recipe.

Seems to me that the growth of communities at it's boundaries has been going on for quite some time. How far back do you suggest we go? Back in the day the interface area began somewhere around wade ave. Everything south of that to skaha lk was grasslands peppered with Ponderosa Pine. Then we cleared it, built farms, and planted orchards. Now all that farmland is covered in houses and shopping malls. I always find it a bit amusing when I hear people complain of urban sprawl when imo the logical place for housing is in the sloped and rocky hillsides, not on the flat arable farmland we once used to feed ourselves.

The real question is why were they deployed in a direct attack in such dangerous conditions. Here the crews would have been pulled back and either attacked from the air or let it burn as it's "beyond resources"
