The two screens on the south side of the old PenMar were built in an old bowling alley. Since the new theatre has almost twice the screens as the old one we should take this opportunity to address the bowling lane shortage.

As I remember it the bowling alley was gutted by fire but the building survived. Not that it makes a whole pile of difference, bringing back the bowling alley is about as logical as trying to compete with seven brand new screens in an out of date and extremely tired old PenMar.

Went to the theater this week for the first time, awesome experience. No more going to Westbank or Kelowna to catch a flick anymore. I'll have to go bowling I guess this week to comment on the later parts of this post, but all in all if you haven't been to the theater yet, you're definately missing out.

So what LightShine ... what do you propose that we do? Should we take down the theatre? You are a broken record ... popping up with these scary little inuendos about there being Chinese money backing the new theatre. What else do you have in your bag of tricks besides fear mongering? What do you propose that we do about the Chinese investment in our community?

How is Penticton's new theatre?
Does it seem to be well supported by the locals, well attended?

We went as a family this past weekend to see the new James Bond movie. Paid $40 (incl. tax)for 2 adults, 1 youth and 1 child.
We loved the idea you can purchase your tickets and pick seats beforehand. The theatre was spacious and seats were very comfortable. We found the parking lot is small, however, it wasn't a problem for us as we just parked on the street.
It made for a special night out for us.
2 thumbs up from this Penticton family.

Have been to a few flicks at the new theatre now and am very pleased with the theatre itself. My one complaint however is the parking. I cannot for the life of me understand that a building designed with 1200 seats to put bums into can be built with parking for only about 50 vehicles. To further compound the issue, two large chunks of that property's footprint are designated for future restaurants which will obviously strain parking even further. Sure, there is the city lot a block away but it is small and jammed as well. Side streets, alleys, and a healthy long walk can be expected. Good luck to our handicapped and less mobile citizens. It just makes no sense when parking has always been an issue downtown.
If this has been a retail commercial development with up to1200 visits expected every two hours, the building department would have required 200 - 300 parking stalls. Go figger?

The vacant areas on the lot that are currently fenced could be opened for parking, until buildings are built there, which could be quite some time. This would be good customer service.

Oh, yes, it is an excellent movie theatre facility. They even broadcast live opera from the Met., New York, almost monthly...almost better than being there live. Not sure if they do other live broadcasts, but they should. http://www.metoperafamily.org/metopera/liveinhd/canada.aspx?sn=hd
