Boat crash on walking pier

Post by matai »

Glad to read no one standing on the pier at the time of the incident got hurt!

It is believed that alcohol was a contributing factor in the incident.

Doesn't this happen every couple years? Is there big lights on the pier? If not there should be. However, if the boat operator is intoxicated..............
glad nobody on the pier was injured.

Maybe if he was just starting to accelerate and his bow was up in the air.

While intoxicated and running too close to shore - agreed.

This boater was lucky. Locals should remember 1995 when Stan Kurtz, a local speed boat dealer for Mirage Boats, did the same thing and lost his life.

Glad nobody was hurt other than maybe some pride. As stated above this is not the first time the pier has been hit and wont be the last. Has the city thought about maybe adding some lights to make it more visible at night?
It was pretty dark the last couple nights, no bright moon, and to someone who isnt aware of the pier that one red beacon at the end could look like its marking a rock or something in the lake. As far as I remember that whole length of the pier is not lit or even have any kind of reflectors on it.
Did anyone think he may have thought he was staying to the right of whatever object was marked with the beacon?

Maybe now they will actually think about lights on the pier........... Or do they need to wait for someone to fall over the railing in the dark and drown, or another boat to hit it and cause injuries or worse?

I doubt this to be true, and by what he said in his interview.

Simple solution for no stearing, turn off the engine on that boat and it wouldn't have made it onto that pier.

He was not paying attention and driving in a manner that is dangerous to the public, having regard to all the circumstances, including the nature and condition of those waters and the use that at the time is or might reasonably be expected to be made of those waters.

His consumption of alcohol further contributes to the dangerous driving facts.
