Where to get rid of fruit?
This is our first summer in Penticton. We have a beautiful large prune plum tree in our yard that is absolutely full of fruit, ready or very close to being picked. There's only 2 of us, and we don't know enough people here yet to even come close to giving it all away and are wondering how we can get rid of some of it - seems a shame for such beautiful fruit to be wasted. Is there any kind of fruit tree project/organization or something like that in Penticton that would help to pick the fruit and donate it somewhere? Thanks.

Maybe the Food Bank would send some volunteers over to pick it ??? Or one of the churches that operate a soup kitchen/mission? Sally Ann ?
Or put a sign on your gate - and meet your neighbours :D

Re: Where to get rid of fruit?
Can I suggest? If you contact Pen High's Home Ec teacher - Kirsten Nendick, she coordinates the "Paper Bag Lunch Program" which provides needy elementary and middle school kids with paper bag lunches every day.
They are quite concerned that they will not have enough donations because of the packing house closing. ALL donations are very much appreciated by this group. Not only does it fill empty bellies, there is a special needs class at Pen High that construct the lunches for the paper bag program. If they don't have enough funding and food donations, it may close which would be absolute devastation.

:)
We ended up picking it all ourselves, must have had 6 or 7 full boxes (I've never seen one tree with so much fruit). What we couldn't give away to neighbors we ended up taking to the food bank. Just doing our part to keep Penticton folks regular :)
Seriously, I'm glad we had the opportunity to do this and won't hesitate to do the same next year.
