Is the Penticton paper shutting down?

Post by westbankkid »

I just heard the Penticton paper is shutting it's doors. Not sure how true it is. Has anyone heard?

No, absolute lie, *removed/Jo*. The Herald financially is doing OK, paid circulation, strong readership of non-paid (people grabbing it for free at McDonald's, paper sharing, etc.) and they run with a low overhead. Kamloops' problem was huge unionized staff, making a ton of money.

The Editor stated clearly last week (after the Kamloops paper shutdown story appeared) that the Herald is in good shape and will continue to do business as usual.

all newspapers are shutting down.

they could have been honest, but they were greedy and did a lot
of bad things. they thought they could control the way people think.
they thought they could charge really high prices for advertising.
they thought they could give less and less local news. they thought they could do whatever
they want, and people would keep subscribing because they were the only newspaper in town.

they thought people were stupid. they were wrong. now all newspapers
are shutting down.....eventually.

Where did you get the fact that the Penticton Herald is closing its door?

Yup, newspapers got soooooo bad that someone decided one day to teach them a lesson and invented the internet.

In order for that to apply, one would first have to understand what the term "logic" actually means, so don't be holding your breath. LOL

From reading this thread it sounds like pure speculation that the Herald is shutting down. But if you do look at the facts, Glacier Media shuts down the Kamloops Daily News and then they merge two papers up north. And then Glacier indirectly owns a piece of the Herald. Add that on top of the fact that newspapers, in general, are suffering, I can see why the speculation exists.

I won't even waste my time reading a newspaper in the library anymore.

I can't imagine anyone paying $180.00/year for it to be delivered to someone's home.

Did you ever read the Herald? Some people actually get more than one paper delivered to their door.
