Healthy Living Fair coming to Penticton

I noticed Dan Ashton got his picture in the Herald - again.

So this healthy living fair coming to Penticton on March 8 - is it going
to make people healthier, or is it just there to promote businesses that make
money off people who are sick?

Because if people want to be healthier they have to do things differently.

The three, who met up at Ashton's Penticton office, donned purple wristbands to draw attention to the provincially organized Eating Disorders Awareness week, taking place in February.

The campaign is also a tie-in to the 2014 Healthy Living Fair's theme of "Celebrating Health."

The fair slated for March 8 at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre is designed to connect large numbers of people with commercial, nonprofit and professional providers of services that support a healthy lifestyle.

The free event will include keynote speaker Joy McCarthy, activity demos, healthy eating sessions, family entertainment, over 45 different organizations and various health assessment stations, in which the general public will receive one on one reviews and information related to their inquiries.

no matter how many politicians like Dan who smile for the camera
and get their picture in the paper - we still have twice as many obese kids
now as there were in 1980.

I think I heard 43% of us will be overweight in twenty years.
Diabetes is going up.Alzheimers is going up.

Sick people are going to 'BIG BUSINESS' in the next twenty years as the population ages.
And they're even predicting today's kids will be the only kids who will not live as long as their parents.

So I wonder what dan ashton is smiling about? Is that health fair going to accomplish anything?

This is Eating Disorders Awareness Week. Good to see awareness and hopefully there will be more articles in the paper. Penticton is getting the message out and that's a good thing.

I don't think Dan Ashton can actually do anything of importance to help people get healthier.

Your initial post was good. Now you're just bashing politicians.

If a "politician" puts his/her name behind a good cause, then good on them.

The awareness of this, because of Dan, obviously got your attention.

The choice is: Either work towards improving general health by preventative measures, and awareness, or do nothing. I think the Healthy Living Fair will potentially make a difference in some lives. Whether they connect with some of the service providers at the fair, or pick up some practical tips to live healthier. Much better than doing nothing.
