For all the responsible gun owners out there, this is the kind of gun owners the OP is talking about and why they are worried about their safety in their own homes.

Except the OP thinks everyone that wants to shoot should use a gun range. There are responsible people that shoot and pick up their garbage.

I am not denying there are responsible gun owners......probably the vast majority are. However when you are in your yard and gunshots can be heard nearby, and after reading a news article such as this, would you feel comfortable enough to tell your children to just relax and stay outside cuz most gun owners are responsible.
To me, anyone that fires weapons, even carefully and responsibly, close enough to a residence that it can be heard, is being inconsiderate to those homeowners. And by default, irresponsible.
As if there isn't enough bush out there that you have to shoot near homes. If they are not willing to get far enough out of Dodge, then they should be going to a gun range.

This news article shows a group involved in illegal activity. I wouldn't push for all those wanting to shoot to go to a range.
