ONA sockeye?

Post by Brushy Bill »

Heard there is a boomer fishery this year , lots of sockeye being caught.
Has there been salmon sales setup to raise money for enhancement ? somewhere roadside or ?

From the pictures, I am really surprised at the small size of the fish. I have fished for salmon only in the ocean and would never keep a sockeye that small. Am a bit puzzled actually. Anyone with more knowledge that can speak towards that.
Would like to know how the flesh quality of a spawner caught in Osoyoos Lake would compare to a fish caught in the chuck. Am thinking the meat would be rather soft and mushy.
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

The problem with the gene pool is that there is no lifeguard.

Why are they so small?????
And I imagine they do taste mushy compared to salt water catches. Heard some are selling for $6.00/lb....but I think they should be left to grow bigger.

They won't grow bigger , they spawn and die.
Different runs have varied sizes , socs are not big fish , though this run is some of the smallest fish.
They are early in the cycle , so colour isn't silver but its not red either.
And they taste great ! The flesh is rich and firm

I've been saying this about the cherries for years, if they'd just leave them on the tree for an extra year they'd be the size of apples!
