this is hardly something that has not happened before. the peachland one springs to mind and it is still in the court system.

this is merely standard procedure for newspapers to provide the information once charges have been laid. seems fair to everyone being charged of this type of offence.

having said that, i agree being charged and being found guilty is two different outcomes. this guy is tarnished even if he is found innocent of all charges.

There is enough accumulation of evidence to lay not one but several charges - you would prefer his name not be released so you would have no fear while your children and others continue to put themselves at risk while waiting for his day in court? The only fault I would find with the media is if they do not give equal priority and placement coverage if the verdict is not guilty to ensure the name is cleared publicly.

I have heard details of this story and in my opinion the accused should speak publicly to clarify exactly the circumstances of the charges so the public imagination can rest. The charges laid leave a lot of room for vivid imaginations to run wild......

It would seem the officers of the courts do not deem him to be a threat to the community or he would have been remanded without bail.
It appears as though you have some information most are not privy to. If, as you say, he should speak to the community so they can put their imaginations to rest, .....this speaks volumes to me and reinforces that it was not necessary to publicly vilify the man usurping his right to the assumption of innocence prior to due process.

So, in your opinion, at this point in time, was it in the community's best interest and safety that his picture and name were publically posted in the media? And I ask because you are obviously also privy to info that the rest of us are not.

I don't know what the laws and precedents are on that subject. From what I've heard (take that for what it's worth) It's not that it didn't happen, but it's not as ominous as the image the article brings to the minds eye.

Still no damn good, make no mistake about that.
