Yes, the headline is tacky, disrespectful, controversial, and impolite.

Re: "Legless Bob" is a tacky headline.
Why not write them and ask them to retract or change it and choose their titles more carefully then?
I have seen a few bad ones on Castanet but thats news,,, even if two other news companies didnt do the same on this story (because they dont plan their stories together) they do on others. People want to be read first, its a competative thing and it isnt always nice...
I am wondering why if this guy doesnt like it he wouldnt write them himself and ask for a title change,,, are we more sensitive about it then he is?

That's assuming he read it or he may not want to bring more attention to the title then it deserves.
Truths can be backed up by facts - do you have any?

To stand up you need to write the office and tell them directly what you think of it... Complaining here might not get the attention to the issue as desired, or maybe it will,,, but a strong letter to the ones who wrote and approved it for reading would get more I think.

He read it I am sure,,, writing them personally should get them to remove it quietly and likely with an apology,,, we have brought that attention to it that it probably doesnt deserve.

Why should Mr. Egley be expected to write in? A so-called Professional News Outlet should be Professional.
The headline was UNPROFESSIONAL.

It's done - writing a letter doesn't undo it.

We are standing up to the posters here who think this is acceptable.
Don't think 'they' don't know what's being discussed here.

I've just reported this post, we'll see where it goes with the mods. They would be the ones to forward messages to those who can make change.

It is tacky and disrespectful without the humour and resultant knee slapping guffaws of the John Wayne Bobbitt headlines.

HEADLINES VOTE
One simple question regarding "Legless Bob" headline put to vote:
A news story about an amputee with no legs, who has been able to go back to work as a barber with his new electronic chair.
Do you view this headline as respectful, or disrespectful; professional, or unprofessional?

So what if he was homeless and called Homeless Bob? Or Transgendered Bob? Or Pink Hair Bob?
Good god, eveything is turning into a hate crime.
Personally, I think it was a waste of money to spend that much dough to put a guy that age back to work.
Im gonna call him "Employed Bob".
