When Vernon's sign said "Home of Steve Fonyo" and shortly after, Enderby's sign said "Home of George Drabuik".
One of my all time favourite gags.

Actually, what I should have posted is:
You know you're from Enderby if you know George.

Good ole Enderby. Wasn't there a cabaret on the corner downtown called ROGER's? He had a house band and the lead singer was a guy by the name of Wally somebody. Used to be the place to be back then. What ever happened to good old Roger?

The would have been the Pumphouse Cabaret. It was the only place in valley with live music in the early 80s. People from Salmon Arm to Kelowna would drive out to go to see the bands. I don't remember any particular house band, but it was a bit before my time.

You don't have to be from Enderby to know George. I had a few not-too-pleasant encounters with him when I was working at VJH and I'd pretty much forgotten about him until I came across this thread. Whatever became of the old so-and-so anyway?

Okay - you've got attention...
I went to elementary school many years ago with George (I remember him well). I know all about the 'Fonyo' sign but don't have a clue as to the 'George' reference. Whats the story??

I remember the haze of wood smoke that constantly hung over Enderby. Would love to see pictures of the old Riverside mill at the north end of town, just before the current North Enderby Timber mill. There was another Riverside mill at Ashton Creek too.

Thank God DE Drive In is still there!

I'm not from Enderby, but I miss seeing "The good, the bad, and the ugly" when I go there.

First building on the right a church, next to that, the liquor store, and next to that, the RCMP. Running joke for years!

Yes. It was actually the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
