Neighbour installed a camera pointing at my house/ window
My Neighbor decided to put up a security camera a few weeks ago. I didnt think much of it at first. But The other day when I was out side he came over to inform me that he had installed the camera's (I had already seem them), he then went on to say that my house was in view but he "blocked" it out on his monitor.
I wasn't to impressed and told the guy do not film my house. He seemed surprised that I would be upset, and said he just wanted to let me know so that if I went away on vacation he could monitor it!! His house is below mine, and he has the thing pointing up looking right into my living room window! Is there any bylaw against this? I did a quick search on the city bylaws page but found nothing.

If you are in public its legal but I question that it would be legal to continuously film the inside of someones house.

Perfect time to install one way glass or put a mirror film on your window. I can't believe that someone can film a neighbours house. Whatever happened to a citizens right to privacy? Actually, there is a mesh screen that we use on RVs that might do the trick and it's not too expensive.

I've heard it's legal to film outside in public space, for as long as he's not filming inside your home or something that could NOT be seen from the street, which includes your backward.

There is no good reason why he can't aim the camera slightly lower so that it does not look at your window. If the camera is for security on his property , he does not need to see beyond the property line. In the event that he does not co-operate , a lazer pointer is only a few bucks and will take care of the camera.

No it's not! Only areas that can be seen from a public area, like your front or back yard, if you point a camera at your neighbours window that is illegal.

Filming anything is perfectly legal from the position where you can legally stand. Me filming your house from 2 miles away with zoom lenses - perfectly legal. Me filming your house from my house - perfectly legal. Me filming inside of your house from YOUR property - not legal.
If I can see your house from my property - I can film it as well. Cameras in that perspective do nothing but replace human eyes. If I can look into your house window from my house - I can film it as well.

Anyone remember that woman who was doing her housework in the living room in her birthday suit and some kid and his/her mom were walking past the house on the sidewalk and the kid saw the nekkid woman through the window inside her house? The nekkid woman got charged for indecent exposure or something like that.

Well personal experience has nothing to do with law, look up expectation of privacy.

With hovering drones now available on the internet for cheap, expect more of this kind of neighbourly nonsense. Make sure your drapes are closed.
