It amazes me what ticks (some) people off these days. Clark consulted and of those who cared to vote the second Monday in February was the choice of twice as many people who opted for the third Monday. And if you ask the ski industry, for example, they'll tell you that it's a good idea to have a different holiday from those in other places. It seems like a sensible decision to me and it was made by those (like me) who chose to vote and yet some people get their knickers in knots over it. Too funny.

Prioritizing or not there is only so much money unless you want to raise taxes substantially or continue adding to the debt.

And are you actually saying that THIS Liberal government has been able to prioritize expenditures to the benefit of the taxpayers of the province?

It's a "family day" holiday, and lots of BC families have family living and.or working out of province in Alberta and Sask who would love a three day weekend in the middle of winter to be able to get together during that long dull haul between Christmas and Easter. Trouble is, if the other province(s) doesn't have it on the same weekend they are sorta hooped aren't they?. But hey, the big business ski industry is more important than "families" ...."first".

Idiots!

Did you vote Nab? People were consulted, not just those big bad business people, and they chose the second Monday in February.

I think it was stupid to even have a consultation and vote on it. (It was just a political maneuver anyway to up Christy's score points). Hells bells, every province to the east of us as far as and including the Province of Ontario has their mid winter long weekend on the third Monday of February, but we have to be the screwups and be "odd man out" once again.

Get your head out of the sand or wherever your head has been for the past 12 years man!
Are you against the KGH and Vernon Jubilee expansions? How about UBCO? Was that bad prioritizing? How about adding a medical school to UBCO? Was that bad? How about the Bennett bridge? I realize it infuriates some of you when I point out some positives (and I do think that most people are in favour of the above items) but clearly this government has done some things for the benefit of the taxpayers. Hopefully Adrian Dix won't disappoint you flaming but he's already trying to tone done expectations because he's smart enough to know that revenue will continue to be an issue.

Yeah, why consult and give people a say? That was very arrogant of her to solicit opinions and then respect those opinions.

And you have no issue with BC rail, Owelympics, IPPs BC Hydro, ICBC, Boss Power, BCLDB, ad nauseum?

Hospitals are always a bone of contention with the state our health care system has been allowed to deteriorate to. But as to the Bennett bridge, just huge waste of money without forethought as to the logical alternative - development of a west side bypass of Kelowna that has been the smarter thinking (IMO) since way back in the 70's and 80's.

I do with BC Rail (the $6 million and the very fact that it was sold after we were told that it wouldn't be sold), ICBC (don't turn a surplus over to general revenue and then raise our rates), and numerous other things. No big issue with the Olympics though. And remember that I'm not voting for them. I'm just pointing out the hyperbole and adding some balance. Do I think that CC is up to the job as Premier? No, I don't. Do the Liberals deserve to be reelected? No, they don't. Will I be voting for them? No, I won't. But do I think they've done some things well? Yes, I do.

Yes, a west side bypass with a bridge further up the way (as Judy Tyabji proposed I believe) makes sense to me as well and maybe someday it will happen. But it would have been far more expensive than the Bennett bridge (think bypass plus bridge as opposed to just a bridge).

Didn't need to replace the bridge Urbane. But even then that would be no big deal had the Socreds of the 80's done the sane thing and committed to a Westside Kelowna Bypass and got started on it back then. No government in it's right mind runs a major provincial through artery smack through the center of a city or town any more. That went out of style back in the 50's and 60's. Too late for Kelowna now though and the future costs to deal with the fallout of that stupidity are going to be staggering for you guys.

Well, the structural engineers said that the bridge did need to be replaced and it was certainly inadequate as to capacity anyway. Yes, the bypass would have been better than running the highway right through the centre of the city but as you say, too late for Kelowna now.
