1) She's the head of the party and gets paid as that from her party. How is that illegal?

2) She gets the money from donations from people that are members of her party. Again this is not illegal.

If you find it immoral then that's another issue entirely.

Either way this is nothing new. All party leaders make a salary based on their job as leader of the party regardless of if they're a Premier or not. That's their job, hence they get paid.

Perhaps the issue with your comment is that you feel she should not accept the money she would receive as party leader while she is Premier? That probably would seem a little more reasonable and the optics would be better.

I wonder how many so called FAVOURS have been bestoed on the corporate leaders who paid the BRIBE money. Last I heard bribery in politics was illegal. Our family sure won't be voting for her next time. Might have to bite the bullet and vote NDP unless the Conservatives run candidates.

Christy receives $195K as premier of the province. That should represent her sole source of income.

1) She's the head of the party and gets paid as that from her party. How is that illegal?

She is Not the head of the party any more. She is the premier of the province, dedicated by her oath to govern for ALL people of the province.

2) She gets the money from donations from people that are members of her party. Again this is not illegal.

That is not true. She gets money from foreign interests - people who are definitely NOT 'members of her party.

If you find it immoral then that's another issue entirely.

No. It's not only immoral, it is unethical, selfish, a definite conflict of interest and one that would be deemed illegal outside of third world dictatorships!!

Either way this is nothing new. All party leaders make a salary based on their job as leader of the party regardless of if they're a Premier or not. That's their job, hence they get paid.

No, you are totally wrong on this point. Once you are premier, you are paid by the TAXPAYERS to do your job. Any other payments amount to GRAFT!

Perhaps the issue with your comment is that you feel she should not accept the money she would receive as party leader while she is Premier? That probably would seem a little more reasonable and the optics would be better.

You finally got the point. Congratulations!!

So FF if you worked at Wal MArt and then got a second job at Canadian Tire you would not allow Wal Mart to pay you anymore even though you still do your proper work there?

If not why demand the same of others....and no there isn''t a difference.

Your attempt to equalize this issue is totally laughable and ridiculous to boot!!!

Christy Clark is paid to be the Premier of the Province of BC - not a political fundraising wh**re for the ChristyLiberal party. The $50K determines what she actually is. Offer her $1 and she would turn up her nose,

OMG, seriously ?
If you think that the highest level civil servant in BC, whose job is to represent all British Columbians, who is also taking additional private money from special interests is the same thing as a part time private sector employee at Wal Mart moonlighting at Canadian Tire to make ends meet, you're really not understanding the issue.

Anyone who believes that Christy is equally representing us lowly peons that either can't, or won't, contribute huge infusions of cash to help finance her other pay cheque, is sadly mistaken. If you don't pay, you can't play in Christy's playground...

And again, here:

Public wealth, private benefit
BY NORMAN FARRELL ON JANUARY 17, 2017 • ( 10 COMMENTS )
People who are not profiting – or expecting to profit – from corruption in British Columbia’s political arena, should understand. We all pay. We pay dearly and inescapably.

Tens of billions of dollars the Clark gang is gifting to private power producers and billions more paid and payable to foreign-owned gas producers might have provided for an effective court system, better public education, healthcare, small business support and other citizen priorities.

However, using public wealth to benefit the public runs contrary to the Liberal canon. While small and medium-sized enterprises are the major producers of jobs and economic activity, multinational resource companies are the major producers of political contributions.

BTW, Clark is no longer taking the $50,000 party top-up. Instead she'll submit expenses for reimbursement.

Ah, so now foreign non-BC resident real estate developers, and domestic big money special interest concerns are only paying christy's expenses, that makes a huge difference....NOT
What's wrong with following the lead of the other provinces, territories and the federal government, and simply end corporate and union political contributions ?

How is the salary from the political party one leads a corporate bribe? Because the party may receive donations therefore it's ill gotten gains, but only for the parties you dislike and the ones you like can keep doing it? Hypocrite doesn't even start it. Horgan would be receiving a similar salary yet you don't mention that....funny.

I will agree on one point however, I support the removal or corporate and union donations, as well as the prevention of corporate and union second hand spending for political purposes.

You haven't got the first clue as to what you're rambling on about. I've never said anywhere it was OK for ANY politician to accept ANY money from anywhere except for their taxpayer funded paycheque. And no, Horgan does not collect a party salary, up until this evening Christy was the only elected politician in all of Canada collecting a separate party funded paycheque.
Speaking of hypocrisy, the epitome of hypocrisy is assuming that being highly critical of a corrupt government, and it's corrupt leader is somehow an endorsement, or showing support for the NDP..

Gary Mason has an excellent column on this subject. Excerpt:

If you needed evidence of the complete arrogance the B.C. government is capable of displaying on the issue of campaign financing, Advanced Education Minister Andrew Wilkinson was happy to provide it this week.

The Liberals’ recent disclosure that it had raised $12.5-million in 2016, most of it on the backs of wealthy corporations and the richest people in the province, has fanned the flames once again around the issue of reforming an area of our electoral system that has become embarrassingly out of sync with the rest of the country.

This issue is one of the reasons that I plan to vote for an independent in my riding.

^^^^Thanks for the link Urbane. I too am voting for the independent candidate in my riding this election, it's the only way to send a message to all the mainstream parties that they have nothing of value to offer anymore....

She probably has already gotten her 2016 'top up' and is probably trying to figure out how she can make 'personal expenses' she will charge to the party add up to that. Maybe she could ask Bill Van der Zalm to lend her his brown paper bag???
