Christy Clarks Parting Shot

Post by Hurtlander »

Christy Clarks parting shot to the First Nations community.

This was a deliberate attempt to see if the NDP will say "no" and reverse this agreement. This not very well thought out move by Christy is going to create a massive headache for the next BC liberal leader to have a positive working relationship with the First Nations.

Low.

But hey, the Libs were paid off with a big donation so the decision was already paid for, right ?

”It wasn’t a total shock, we knew (the decision) was coming,” said Russell Myers Ross, Chief of the Yunesit’in First Nation, one of the six Tsilhqot’in communities, “but the timing of it was incredibly insensitive, not only for us dealing with the fires and having almost no offices and no staff (but because) the new government is coming in and haven’t been briefed yet.”

In an email to community leaders Monday, senior mines inspector Rick Adams said he appreciated that “this may come at a difficult time for you given the wildfire situation affecting some of (their) communities,” but he had made the decision Friday and “must honour my previous commitment to provide you with timely notification.”

It was all timed to make the NDP's job all that more difficult.

End of Story.

As it reads to me, the government has issued a permit for exploratory work. I believe to keep a mining claim registered to a person or company, work has to be done on that claim to keep it active in a certain time frame.
I suspect some far flung area will become a "pin-cushion" with some exploratory drilling to meet this standard.
Me thinks the owners still believe they can make a case to allow the mine to proceed....
