We, the Public, need to know whether or not those officers followed both their training and/or established police procedure. We, the Public, need to know whether or not the police on our streets are adequately trained, or appropriately trained. We, the Public, need to be assured that if, and when, police officers behave inappropriately, or in contravention of their training or established police procedure, that they will be disciplined in some way. Because no one wants "wild cards" roaming loose in our streets. In a democratic society such as ours, the police force hold a unique position of power over their fellow individuals and, if we are to preserve our democracy and avoid abuse of that power, it is absolutely essential that each and every officer is held accountable to the public he or she serves for each and every questionable action they take. Hence the need for a Public Inquiry whenever there is any question as to the appropriateness of officer’s actions. If the inquiry finds there was no wrong doing, then the officers (and the entire police force) will be vindicated. However, if the inquiry finds the opposite to be true, then it can recommend that corrective action be taken which will hopefully prevent any future similar tragic circumstances.

As well, all 4 should be cited for coverup and perjury.

-unfortunately if any punishment is delivered in the form of fines, or if the mother's lawsuit succeeds, it will be the taxpayer who is penalized, not the culprits themselves.

I guess a couple of things that should be asked (and reported on by the media) why the federal Liberals gave the RCMP such carte blanche in the first place, and drafted such poor legislation for parliamentary committees to try and work out the details later. Possibly a quick knee jerk stop gap measure following 9/11?

Then it could be asked why the committee(s) have been so apparently dysfunctional since getting it sorted out, and exactly who is the fly in the ointment as to getting it done. Obviously it doesn't seem to be very high on the opposition's list of priorities.

And today we have.....

PMO 'disappointed' by internal RCMP e-mail on Robert Dziekanski apology

VANCOUVER -- One day before RCMP Deputy Commissioner Gary Bass publicly apologized to Robert Dziekanski's mother for the Mounties' role in his death after being Tasered, Bass e-mailed an RCMP member assuring him the apology did not mean the force was sorry for anything specific its officers did.

Distilled down to mere facts and not considering hindsight as 20/20:

1. If you act like an idiot in an international airport, BAD things are gonna happen to you.

2. If Robert had not died, the RCMP would have been congratulated at controlling what could have been a serious public threat.

An unfortunate situation occurred. This is a one-off. Millions of people transit YVR who have met the same or worse travails than Robert did. They have survived.

Braidwood is currently taking questions from the media. I haven't had a chance for find and reveiw his report yet, but I have the sense from media questions so far, and responses to them, that Braidwood has not come down as hard on these RCMP officers as many expected.

B.C. to reopen airport Taser probe........The B.C. government will reopen the investigation into the actions of the four RCMP officers linked to the death of Robert Dziekanski, says Attorney General Mike de Jong.

The move follows the release of retired justice Thomas Braidwood's final critical report into the fatal incident at Vancouver airport in October 2008.

"Since receipt of this report, the assistant deputy attorney general, Bob Gillen, has determined, and I agree, that it is appropriate to appoint a special prosecutor to review this matter," said de Jong in a statement.

The government will also act immediately to implement all of the recommendations in the final report, including setting up a civilian-led unit to investigate all deaths and serious incidents involving municipal police and RCMP, said de Jong.

Dare we hope that charges will finally be laid instead of avoiding them through a whitewash job by this government in the first place?

...or will it just turn into yet another piece of political grandstanding and time consuming study with no intention of really following through?

A mass protest should be in order on this one to prove just how corrupt the powers that be, really are.
There should be a who bunch who were above the law when it came to due process.
Its time for a protest, for the RCMP to come clean or be removed, until they can agree to be accountable and honest to those they protect and serve.
Everything is corrupt, and is not acceptable.

And, where is Monty Robinson anyways?
He's my favorite disgraceful cop.
