Vancouver apparently broke even financially.
Where are all the people telling our children will be eating their eyeballs while repaying the mysterious debt these Olympics put us in?

On what basis do you suggest Vancouver broke even financially Captain? They are still trying to dig themselves out of the financial disaster that is the Olympic Village, and how much taxpayer money they may lose is still up in the air, and likley will be for some years to come.

Just as the economic spinoff benefits will be up in the air likely for some years to come.

Games officials said the $1.9-billion operating budget resulted in neither a surplus nor a deficit and the $603-million venue development program also came in on budget.

91 per cent of the cost of operating the Games still ended up coming from non-government sources.

Very true Wolf. In fact, because of the meltdown, it is going to be very difficult to determine what, if any, economic benefits can be attributed to the Olympics at all. The best we have seen so far is visitors and locals spending money during the two weeks of the event, temporary jobs associated with putting it together, hosting it, and taking it apart, and construction jobs associated with things that were done (transit, sea to sky, etc) that were obviously fast tracked because of the Olympics, but who's cost is apparently not going to be accepted as part of the Olympic costs. If that is true, the jobs and related economic stimulous cannot be attributed to the Olympics either IMO.

That's the Vanoc budget vs actual Captain. Nothing to do with the costs Vancouver racked up (on behalf of their taxpayers) in doing their part. Olympic Village for example, but many other things too. and I'm still waiting for the security costs other than Vanoc's part of them to be nailed down.

Debt surrounding Vancouver's Olympic Village still unknown
Vancouver’s troubled Olympic Village could still wind up costing taxpayers as much as $100 million in unrecovered debt despite herculean efforts to sell the project’s remaining units,

Does this surprise you Nabs. The people of BC will never know the actual costs of this event.
