I think it's a shame people get so hung up on Bountiful and the FLDS. Even the courts and cops and government make that mistake. This case wasn't about Bountiful at all. It was a constitutional ruling. Using Bountiful and the women and kids there as "shining examples" of why polygamy is wrong is just nuts.

There are quite a few other polygamists who have no religious affiliation and they have fought this criminalization for years.

It also criminalizes other religions amongst the immigrants to Canada who practice polygamy. It will be interesting to see if the courts now go after them as they have the FLDS and Blackmore all these years.

If they really wanted to solve those problems at Bountiful, the abuse, the selling off of young girls, the abandonment of the boys and the trafficking across the Canada/US border, they need to legalize polygamy so the women will be able to leave the communes without being afraid the government will jail them as criminals and take their children away from them. In this case, the judge played right into Blackmore's hands. The women there will not leave even if they want to because they will not risk the government taking their children. Blackmore will use that (as he has always done) to keep those women afraid and under his control.

What he will also do now is marry those girls off even younger and take younger brides himself with their parents' permission. He'll also escalate it and have more younger "boys" marrying the young girls. The judge's ruling enabled that.

The courts had other laws they could have charged him with - and women and the Lost Boys willing to testify, too. But, instead, they chose to go this route and blew it.

It'll get challenged, I'm sure. I'd like to get my hands on that 355-page document.

As surprising to you as it may seem, some of those women are quite happy at Bountiful. Some of them have good and kind husbands who provide well for them and who are good fathers to their children. Some do not want to leave and are content in their marriage, their religion and their way of life.

Shooting the perverts will not change much - there will always be more perverts.

And there will always be people like you who keep mixing the real issue up. The perverts can and should be charged under other laws that are already in place. In order to do that, the women need to be able to leave Bountiful without being afraid they will be charged as criminals under this law and that they will not have their children taken away from them. This ruling today works against that and they will still be criminals and could lose their children if they leave the commune. Blackmore will be sure to emphasize that to them and increase their fears.

I think finally they kept their ruling, making polygamy remaining illegal.
