Guess I was wrong about it being warm last weekend. lol. Anyway, June is typically the wettest month of the year in the Okanagan. Here is a little comparison of averages between Kelowna, Penticton, Kamloops, Vancouver, and Eureka, Nunavut (the driest place in the Canada). Notice that the driest place in Canada has more precipitation days (see first graph) during the summer months than does Vancouver.

Just a fanatic, I guess...

And just to prove it (and with today's snowfall at Silverstar in mind), here are the dates for the latest occurrence into the Spring/Summer of 1 cm of snow at various places:

NAME (ELEVATION) - DATE - YEAR

Kelowna (430m) - April 28th - 1984
Penticton (344m) - April 13th - 1961
Venon (482m) - May 29th - 1921 {None of the other other weather stations existed on this list in 1921, except Hedley}

Kamloops (345m) - April 17th - 1955
Princeton (701m) - May 25th - 1975

Whitehorse (706m) - June 25th - 1963
Mayo, YT (504m) - June 7th - 1992
Yellowknife (206m) - June 7th - 1967

Toronto (176m) - May 7th - 1976
Vancouver (4m) - April 14th - 1955

Hedley Mine (1706m) - CAN OCCUR ANY DAY OF THE YEAR

*edited to correct Vancouver date

:doubt: I'll believe it when I see it . . . we've been promised a lot and it really hasn't come through.

I realize its very early, but does anybody have any idea about what next winter will look like? I hope the weather will warm up for the summer, but if it doesn't, I want the cold weather to continue to next spring. Last winter, we were promised to get massive amounts of snow and frigid cold weather. They were very wrong. It was a fairly normal winter. This year I hope we get what we were promised last year.

I predict that July 4th will be the first 30 degree day of the year

July 5th was the first 30 degree day in Kelowna, so you'll have to find it in your heart to forgive me for being off by one day!

It happens just about every year. We whine and complain about June. June is usually a wet month in BC. And then early July turns hot. It happened again this year. And if June is dry, and July turns out to be it's usual dry self, we burn up in August.
If June is wet, we will probably have few fires. If June is dry...... look out.

Things tend to dry about every year at this time around here, for sure.

The only year that it never reached 32 degrees in Kelowna was 1954, but that was a very dry year, so things would have still dried out.
