That will likely happen Tuesday. I will wake you up then.

Figures the freaking cold weather would kick in just in time for Remembrance Day ceremonies. Well, the kids and I managed to make it through the whole thing - which was longer this year, more wreaths laid. The wind kept the flags that were at half-mast conspicuously waving.

Remembrance Day was pretty warm if you were in the sun. I live in a less windy place than you, so I actually felt warm in the calm sunny weather. by the end of the ceremony all the snow had melted. Even my kids were warm, and the under dressed.

At least it wasn't rainy like it was a couple years ago, nor super cold like this morning.

-11 in Penticton this morning, which was close to record breaking.

-12 again this morning, but at least it is sunny once again. CBC radio said this morning that the entire Okanagan was under cloud, which is not true since the sun is shining in my office window here in Vernon.

This month has been remarkably sunny, but it looks like things will warm up in a couple of days, and we might even see some snow.

Kelowna is clouded in right now. Seriously, I think it's going to snow.

Not today. I can see toward Kelowna, and I can see low clouds south of Kal Lake, but l see the sun shining above them.

Buffalo got hit with a massive storm. So big in fact, that no place in Canada has ever had this much snow in a single day, not even at the top of Mount Revelstoke. Some mountain top in Colorado once had 76 inches, but today's total of 60 inches (150 cm) is the most in an populated area in the USA.

Biggest 24 hour snowfalls in Canadian history:

date---------------location......................inches (cm)
Feb 11, 1999----Tahtsa Lake West, BC..........57.1 (145)
Dec 4, 1985----Pleasant Camp, BC.............50 (127)
Mar 20, 1885----Cap Madeleine, Quebec.........48 (121.9)
Jan 17, 1974----Lakelse Lake, BC..............46.5 (118)
Feb 11, 1999----Terrace, BC...................44.6 (113.4)
Feb 18, 1972----Kitimat, BC...................44.2 (112.3)
Jan 16, 1976----Stewart, BC...................41.6 (105.7)
Feb 5, 1988----Main Brook, Newfoundland......41.3 (105)
Jan 11, 1968----Kemano, BC....................41 (104.1)
Jan 27, 2000----Unuk River, Eskay Creek Mine, BC........40.9 (104)
Jan 6, 1988----Nain, Newfoundland & Labrador....40.7 (103.4)

I miss those crazy lake effect snowstorms. This current Buffalo event totally reminds me of the Blizzard of '77:

That's incredible. The big storm I had as a kid was November 1990 when we had over 100 cm dumped over two days. We had to get our driveway plowed by a bulldozer. I love snow, and wish it would have done that more often.

Back to Buffalo...

People are really funny. First they say Kelowna is awesome because no wind, then you point out, "ya, but Kelowna gets cold at, night." Then they say, "ya, but that's only at the airport. " Then you say, "ya, but the low wind speed is also only at the airport. Talk about asking for cake and eating it too."
