This really depends on what they are trying to accomplish. It sounds like the prisoner workforce has some issues that aren't being taken seriously by administrators. These could be health and safety issues and it might just take a unified workforce to get their message across. I actually don't see anything wrong with this unless they are trying for higher wages.

When their sentence expires are they no longer union members ? Will they have to pay dues ? Can they pay in smokes ?
