The only possible downside to this is if the cops get together in the locker room to review the cleavage on company time rather than their own time.

On the plus side most people will think twice if on camera... Everybody should get camera'd up...

Exactly ... I take pictures "out in public" frequently. If you are part of a street or a park scene or at an event, chances are good you are "on camera". It's perfectly legal and nobody needs your permission to take those pictures.

There are religions that forbid pictures being taken, would you not be infringing on this persons religious freedoms and protection?

You have your rights, until the infringe on anothers'

They forfeit their rights once they place themselves in front of a camera.

Wow, there's a lot of wacky religions out there.

Thankfully, law wins by default.

and we have such a large Hutterite population too! (BTW, they do allow causal images of themselves, just no posing, so the argument is void)

Odd - I've been through plenty a driving checkpoint where I've done nothing wrong yet am still talking to police officers.

Because the government gets to define what's wrong, and they keep changing the definition.

That would be a daily concern with or without cameras then.

This particular discussion has zero to do with cameras. I've stated that repeatedly.

Because you might do something wrong with my information.

It can happen anywhere with anything, not just the police. So you should be paranoid of everything and everyone around you.

I shred any personal paperwork before throwing into the recycle bin....

I find your statement to be entirely uneducated, weak, and undeserving of the protections of the Canadian Charter.

I find yours paranoid and ignorant, I guess we're even. And who are you to determine if I'm "worthy" of protection of the charter? You're inflicting the same power you fear. Hypocrite.

No - my problem stems from you deciding that since you don't value your own rights, everybody else should willfully give theirs up. If you choose to give up your own rights, so be it. Don't expect me to follow suit.

I'm not quite sure what rights you're giving up?

How your concerns are being addressed with dash cameras? Because that information is protected, and used for evidence also. You seem to have no problem with dash cameras, and since body cameras are most likely to be used in exact same way...

I would and do have exactly the same concerns. There has been the odd instance of said dash cam recordings that have gone missing or otherwise have been destroyed.

Can you show me the examples of where this has happened. Nobody has provided any examples on this thread yet of the other claims they have made of video been lost, miss-used, destroyed etc.

Splitting hairs is not proving a point or a convincing argument.

I said nothing about it dealing strictly with cameras. I suggest re-reading what I wrote. I left it quoted for you to make it simpler for you to understand.

I shred any personal paperwork before throwing into the recycle bin....

You're a fool if you think that will keep you completely protected. Plus that's not the only place for people to get your information. I've had my ID compromised by ones in Gov't I trusted with it. My desire for Justice was over-ridden by them hiding behind the Privacy Act. There's a loophole someone will find behind every law.

No - my problem stems from you deciding that since you don't value your own rights, everybody else should willfully give theirs up. If you choose to give up your own rights, so be it. Don't expect me to follow suit.

On the contrary, I do value my rights and I understand them. I find your views typical of those in today's society who don't fully understand and assume what is and isn't their rights, and abuse what they do have in the name of "privacy", which lets face it, is a fallacy in this digital age. They scream "police state" when they have no concept of what it really means to live in one. There's people all across this world that would give their lives (and have) for a fraction of the rights that we have and many in this country take for granted. See above.

As per usual most are missing the true point behind these cameras.

They are a tool used by the federal government, of which the RCMP are employed, to gather data about individuals in a specific area. I am curious as to why Kelowna has become the testing ground for all things invasive (Kelowna Airport was one of the first to have the full body scanner before they became standard equipment).

Very little of the footage captured in Europe was used for anything related to crime. But if it makes you all feel better to be on the Federal Government parade of who's who good for you.

FYI did you all know X-ray vans have been in BC since the Olympics. In the interest of security only, they say; then why are the vans still cruising the streets of Vancouver and the Okanagan ?

They are the "Big Brother" watching both parties. They are a fantastic idea and people who argue against them are foolish. Video tape rules. Right or wrong the truth is told on tape and by a jury of our peers watching it.

What kind of "Data" are they gathering that the police officer doesn't already have access to, voice and image, I think they still hear and see things, don't they?. Unless............... of course, they have the thought control module installed, which explains everything!

A couple things I do like about the cameras on cops is that both the cop and the person they are dealing with might treat each other with respect knowing that their behavior is being taped which reduces the chances of minor things escalating.

The police will not be able to lie on the stand saying the suspect said or did something they did not. I think the cameras will actually cause the police to lose more cases.

The part I like is when it comes to trial. There is no bullS... about the accused did not do this or that!!

I just recently went to court and a unkown witness appeared for the defence ( I don't believe he was even there that day, so how are you a witness??) The story would have been great if on video and purjury charges would be very easy to prove.

The use of cameras will speed up the courts process and cut down the delays of trials once defence realizes the facts are what they are.

If the cops record you, it's an invasion of privacy. However, if you whip out your cell phone to record a cop... you're doing so in the public interest.

I sum it up as being uneducated and simple minded!!!!!

Many comments here are just slinging dirt at enforcement… grow on up people!!

Take the time to research it, it is at your finger tips. Further you can actually be video taped while in you own back yard!!

And what about innocent people walking down the street, should they not have the freedom to NOT have their picture taken if an officer saunters by.
There should be very stiff rules for these cameras and the officers that use them.
And where exactly is the footage from these cameras goin to be stored?
Just another tool for the monkey patrol to abuse.

None of this does anything to STOP crime so it is a waste of time and money.

In one simple word. NO! When you walk down any down town street in Kelowna you are video taped, and there is no expectation of privacy when you are walking down a public street so if a cop has his recorder on and you are caught in the back ground so be it. Walk into any drug store, 7-11 or gas station and same rule applies. Get over it.
