Guess you missed my question in the original post. In case you did, here it is:

How do they arrive at future lost earnings when he went back to work and hasn't missed any regular work because of back pain?

Thought etc. would suffice but apparently I was wrong.

KL3 answered my questions.

Do you know what course he had chosen within the RCMP? Perhaps it was bomb-tech ? Maybe ERT, dog squad, or some other department that requires a high level of physical conditioning?
Do any of us have knowledge of the medical records and the doctor's prognosis for his future?

I suggest that; since we are NOT privy to ALL of the mitigating circumstances including what the future may have brought to this officer, we can not render judgement upon the facts of this case.
