Similar issues with firefighters. Sometimes the 'big boys' do not act any better than the 'little boys' with regard to 'girl germs'.
It is unacceptable in the least, and it is good to hear that the women are not only speaking out, but banding together for change.
They are very brave in this action.

The lawsuit outlines a long list of damages or injury including post-traumatic stress disorder, diminished self worth, attempted suicide, anxiety, feelings of guilt, insomnia and failed relationships.

"These injuries have caused and continue to cause the plaintiff and class members pain, suffering loss of enjoyment of life, permanent disability, loss of physical, mental and emotional health and loss of earnings, past and prospective," said the statement of claim.

This is the very same result for kids who are bullied (by their peers as well as adults) in school, and in their community.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Workplace_bullying

In terms of gender, the Workplace Bullying Institute (2007)[6] states that women appear to be at greater risk of becoming a bullying target, as 57% of those who reported being targeted for abuse were women. Men are more likely to participate in aggressive bullying behavior (60%), however when the bully is a woman her target is more likely to be a woman as well (71%).

Looks like it happens in most workplaces. Media and many posters here like to think or report that issues such as this only happen with the RCMP organization. RCMP are people doing a job just like others doing their jobs, you will have some bad apples in every crowd.

Where else have you heard this language used: the unnamed officer said. "I have a suggestion for you; next time, keep your (expletive) legs closed."

Serously, show me a corporation or other where this is tolerated?

What internal culture allows for that behavior?

I think you are minimization of the issue may be intentional, because it is sooooo serious.

That is right. In a hierarchical organization, it comes from the top..the BIG in boys...or whatever boys collectively refers to.

Who are these guys anyways?

Who is perpetuating this culture at the very top of what matters, assuming as a given, that good peace keeping is essential to a healthy society?

Assuming a definition for peace, as: "not being acted on or actively threatened by predators or hostile forces, or internal conflicts".

Is it possible that the culture exists so strong there, because there really are the Predators existing, we been looking for?

how else can you explain the consistency of it...the persistent boldness at how it expresses....and minimizes its own problems...as they negatively impact others...minimizing the negative impact on others...the impact...minimized...is maximized in this way..

Thus a few, terrorize many

as the old music-hall chorus that used to be sung in London ever so long ago:

When the Pigs begin to fly
Oh, won’t the pork be high?
And we’ll send old maids to Parliament—
When?—
When the Pigs begin to fly.

The last stanza of the 1840 Chorus Song is;

5. A day will come when ev’ry belle will dress with simple taste;
She won’t puff out her figgure and srew in her dainty waist,
High heels, low bodies, dressimprovers, chignons she’ll decry,
Drop powder, puff, and all such stuff when the pigs begin to fly.

When read and researched to learn what they were specifically meaning in the song as the Pigs, you can see now how the Female RCMP officer was treated so poorly, even common decency is dismissed (all such respect toward a Woman) and fully disregarded...the closer you get to a superior up the chain of command.

If it were that simple, we could give them a pill..... Psychopathy may be more accurate...for which there is no cure.

There are two excellent theories for arguing with women.
Neither one works.

Did not the Mounties first bring in women, because they wanted a kinder face? People thought they acted like bullies, roughed up women, etc, so to temper it down, and for appearances, they brought in some women?
