Post Office service - or lack of
:1419: Post Office delivery times SUCK. I ordered an item, a legal size envelope with a tracking number. It arrived at customs in Vancouver and was released to the Post Office. It took 8 days from the time they got it and the time I got it. Hell I could have walked from Vancouver to Westbank faster than that.
They are absolutely useless. 3 months ago I spent $47.00 to send an envelope with legal documents to Washington DC. Guaranteed delivery. They took 2 days longer than allowed. Got my $47.00 back. No wonder they are supposedly losing money.

I was following fine until you said you got your $47.00 back. That I find hard to believe so the rest is probably similar.

It could be true, we've mailed expensive priority post, 2 day delivery, and when it arrived over a week later we were refunded our money by Canada Post.

Canada Post is a bit backwards. I once mailed an iPod to a friend overseas and three months pretty much assumed it was lost in the mail. They issued a refund for full value. The package then showed up a month later.

:1419:They had no choice Nab. It was a "Guaranteed delivery with a full refund if not delivered on time"

Still hard to believe considering there appears to be two different postal services involved.

It's true. I sent something to PEI express delivery. Guaranteed. two days late. I got my money back too!

Fine within Canada Trip. But not out of country mail as in this case I would think. It wouldn't make sense to guarantee the performance of another county's delivery system.

If you are paying for "Guaranteed" delivery and it doesn't arrive in the time frame stated then they will refund your money. They could possibly get it back from the USPS but who knows. That's why they call it guaranteed delivery!

My friend mailed her renewal of her passport through priority post. She got her documents back from passport canada saying they couldn't process them due to the fact the papers were water damaged. She sent them in perfect condition and the damage occured during the postal delivery of them.
This delayed her a bit, she was refunded the cost of mailing it the first time, but that was disappointing that they were that soaked.
No guarantees I guess.

It's here. The OP is correct.

On the flip side: I got a call last summer from the post office in my granddaughter's community. They were trying to deliver her birthday card, but I'd left off part of the address. (Her mom uses a different last name.)They phoned to get the info instead of just sending it back, so she'd get it in time. Nice!

Thanks Trip. Interesting. It would appear they use private sector Fed-Ex Courier to handle the International Express Service under some affiliation agreement set up in 2008. "Canada Post Corporation and FedEx Express Canada have combined forces in the development of Priority™ Worldwide, a new international express service that will be sold in Canada through Canada Post’s retail and commercial networks".
Not being a Canada Post user I guess I missed that development. So I guess international delivery on time guarantees would be more of a Fed-Ex issue than a Canada Post issue?

They're still better than USPS. I ordered something to be delivered priority mail from the US some 9 weeks ago. Still hasn't arrived. However the replacement arrived only one week after making a complaint (Not sure of shipping method for the replacement but i'm quite certain it wasn't USPS).
