Historic Riverview Hospital closes its doors
It has yet to be determined what will happen to the site, which at almost 100 hectares is about one-quarter of the size of Stanley Park and is considered prime real estate.
In 2007 B.C. Housing Minister Rich Coleman announced the site would be developed into a complex of 7,000 high-rise condos, including housing for the mentally ill. In the face of opposition, he later withdrew the proposal saying the public would be consulted first.

I'm sure that like me, many of you here have fond memories of the ECT room...

Hmmm I am not sure if this is a good thing or not. It seems like our mental health system is lacking already so is this just another cut back? Forgive my ignorance but where are the criminally insane people housed? I always thought it was River View? Over the past few months there have been several people that have gone missing from Riverview that were deemed criminally insane and indeed the crimes they committed were pretty crazy! (although they report that they are harmless) By the way these two are still missing!
