They can....and they do and to deny that ANY large breed is capable of inflicting devastating injuries, especially to children, is absolutely asinine.

No one said other Big dogs wouldnt be able to do the same, we have said they dont have the same attitude as the pit bulls seem to have. Pit bulls arent even big dogs really, just ten fold more punch in their bite.
So lets see, your police dog video left the reporter with minor cuts,,,,,,, thats a shepard and he had good reason to bite the reporter, the idiot was about to hover over a Police dog while holding its neck for crying out loud and probably hug the poor thing too,,, what a stupid guy. So lets see, 400 lbs of force, left the reporter with minimal scrapes,,,

im surprised they were never eaten and it took alot of luck trust me.
they would attack a full grown german sheppard and jump out of the car while moving to chase something.
i fully would agree the smaller dogs are almost always the more aggressive, little dog syndrom or something.

Your mom wasnt a very good owner of dogs was she? Now imagine if she had dogs with more ability to harm, someone coulda been hurt real bad,,, glad she stuck to ankle biters. I have had small dogs and big dogs,,, none of them ever acted like that,,,
Small dogs are only aggressive if they are allowed to be but again they are pretty close to harmless, their worst scenerio would be getting themselves kicked by someone or killed by a big dog,,, we arent worried about them so much here.

And you really think the result would have been the same if the dog had not been pulled away immediately by it's handler??? Once again...went right over your head.....the dog lunged at the guy's face. Luckily the dog was restrained.

Was the reporter 'asking for it' ? Absolutely...which is exactly why so many children are bitten in the face...same approach, seen as a threat to the dog.

And yes, you have indeed said, over and over again that other dogs do not do the same kind of damage...that they will all just bite and release, leave puncture wounds as opposed to severe bites requiring stitches.

Well Janalta,,, I was bitten by a full grown lab for stepping on his paw,,, four little holes, no marks today, a little dab of cleanser at the hospital for precaution on my parents part. I know others who were bitten by other dogs,,, small wounds,,, I know a woman who was bittin by her rotti, cut to the finger, a couple stitches, she was a stupid woman,,, I know a kid who was bitten by a shepard after teasing it in previous times and then trying to tease again,,, like you said stupid move on his part but he was young, a few scrapes on his back after the dog pushed him over and gave him a warning bite,,, the owner called him off just like that,,,, I also know people who were bitten by many little dogs,,, no one suffered even stitches that I know of. A friend of mine stuck his hand in my shepard's pen once, he got a big warning growl and a snap at him and he yanked out, he didnt know my dog and that was stupid but not fatal. And I personally know of three pit bull attacks,,, one lost half her *bleep*, the other half his face and the other nearly lost his dog which suffered a long time after that, both had pretty bad injuries,,, add on to that the recent pit attacks we have seen around the area,,, what more can I say?
His attack was described similar to them I showed in my videos which were removed for the same reasons yours might be removed,,,, a ripping and shaking, with a strong hold on the neck, the owner trying to pull his little dog out of the pit bull's mouth, and then the pit bull taking after him cos that little dog just wasnt enough for him that day.

Did you look at the photos that were removed???
Did they look like minor scrapes or puncture wounds to you ?

They were severe injuries, requiring extensive medical treatment. Permanent scarring to the faces of young children...by the very breeds YOU keep saying are not the same danger as Pits.

None of us has ever denied that bully breeds are physically capable of inflicting severe bites......but people need to stop denying that ANY other large breed can be equally dangerous.

Now I would like the stories behind those nice photos you posted,,,

Sounds like you are either very young or very naive. There is no need to make remarks like that one and others you have made about "stupid people". Up until a few years ago, dogs were dogs...all of them. It didn't matter the breed. Hardly any, IF any were fenced in....a few were tied. A lot of dogs had jobs, but they were allowed to go chase a rabbit or whatever and I don't believe they had the frustrations of living in a house, or in a fence, or any such thing where they could get frustrated....IF they met another dog, they might get into a scrap....but they weren't "socialized"....they were allowed to be who they were. There was not, as there is today with both dogs and kids, all the psychobabble and people lived and let live with no sense of "entitlement" (ie., that they had to have everything the way they wanted it with zero respect for what anyone else wanted) And in this day and age of the media, internet, etc., the information highway is full of every sort of story imaginable. "back in the day" people had their pets....sometimes their kids got bit...or the neighbor's kids got bit....sometimes it was really bad and I am sure somewhere there are stories of a dog killing someone. It just wasn't out there every day, in everyone's faces for all the world to see. It did not make the headlines and if it did, it was the local paper. I don't believe dogs are better off today in the world we have created for them.
Of course you would like the stories behind those photos.....look them up, then, and try to justify them.
Want changes? Want safeguards? Then get down off your high horses and make things work. Stop puppy mills and backyard breeding.....get the vets to lower their rates so people can afford to take better care of their pets and have them spayed/neutered.....get to know your neighbors and your neighbor's dogs and let them know how afraid you are if you are.....insist that the rules and regulations regarding ALL dogs are fair and equitable to every breed and every owner....put more owness on the owners to be responsible....do something that might actually have an effect.

the entire pit bull ban is just caused by hype created by people who are scared or do not like pitbulls.
most likely almost all of the people yelling for the ban have never been near a pitbull in their lives they have just watched tv.
every single pitbull i have ever come across have been the most playfull friendly dogs going.
i have been bitten by a doberman once a akita and a german sheppard, strange never a pitbull.
and i have spent my entire life around dogs.

My point about your mom was even tho we did not fence back then I never did let my dogs act up, I didnt like it when other dogs acted like that towards me or my dogs so I trained mine not to. Here is the thing,,, I have never had dogs that barked endlessly either or whined continually while outside,,, were they perfect dogs? No, not at all, I took the time to train them so they werent an annoyance to others, Or myself. Even my parents did the same, we had to walk our dogs and keep the dog busy and let them in after so much time, dogs were not to be left outside on a chain like dogs still are today even tho there is a more active bylaw then there was back then.
I have seen people walk up to someone in an attempt to chat and their dogs are all over the other person, humping a leg barking, jumping up and so on.
I am prit near 50 years old and have had dogs since I was a kid. I know how to deal with them and to be honest, my neighbors dont even know I have dogs till they see them going out for a walk or to one of the vehicles. The neighbor I have now works all day and when he moved in, three months later we got talking out on the road. At that time I had a little boxer and a full grown shepard. He had no idea they were here and their solid six foot high pen is right next to his driveway. I have even had neighbors who eventually realised we had dogs ask me sometime down the road if we got rid of them because they havent heard them or seen them in a long while.

Unless you are quite young still you probably havent spent your entire life around pit bulls tho,,, their population is only getting bigger here in recent years. Unless you were living in the US maybe, they have been quite popular there for much longer. Just sayin.

im just about 50 myself.
thinking back i believe the first time i came across a pitbull was when i was in my very early 20's, it was a great dog with people but the owner did warn me to keep my sheppard in my truck as it would instantly go after it.
i thought that was a fair enough warning.
the problem used to be pitbulls in the beginning appeared to be more owned by punks with attitudes that raised them incorrectly.
look when you see them in movies, always owned by drug dealers and bad guys.
i believe now many many more are being picked up by good owners.
as for my mother, yes she should have as every pet owner kept them more under control, that was the point i was making with small dogs.
for some reason the smaller the dog the less people feel it needs to be watched.
man i have had people stop by and bring their little dog in my house without asking and let it jump on my couch, i always wanted to return the favor just once with my akita's.
bet i would have never been invited back.

Well, then, Roadster I am really happy for you that you have done things better than everyone else has and I sincerely hope that one day all doesn't come back and bite you in the butt, so to speak. I am not much older than you, and I remember a completely different childhood with our dogs and those of neighbors and friends. I remember happy days out playing with dogs and friends, never worrying about a damned thing and never having a fence or a leash....and very happy dogs! You are most definitely opinionated, outspoken and brash....and possibly you are knowledgeable but you do come across as a "know it all" type of person who always needs to be right (IMO only).....and I wish you luck in your quest to be rid of all Pitbulls eventually. I know, for myself, and partly because of the unfair and spiteful way the "against" side has been presented in this forum, I would most definitely, absolutely vote against it...likely would have anyhow but thank you for solidifying my stance!

We lived in a small town a bit north...and, like Roadster I have had dogs as far back as I can remember, and all sorts of breeds, but I never remember any issues. We lived in Mexico for 9 years and between street dogs and poor owners, I never saw a dog fight, never heard of anyone getting bitten and never heard anyone, except expats of course, complain about anything to do with dogs. My dogs now are well behaved, one was a neglected dog and the other is a Sharpei, both from Mexico....but we do live on an acreage and they still have a very large fenced area and they are not allowed to run free. There are dogs out here that are, though.

So I was looking at more statistics, and pitbulls/fighting breeds (presa canario etc), while being a very small % of the dog population in the US (pitbulls are just .033%) are responsible for a very large number of maimings and deaths. The statistics I saw had pitbulls at 56% of the dog attack maimings and deaths.

Yup, and way down the list is my Dachshund, one death since 1982. Surprisingly, Dachshunds are statistically way more dangerous than collies. Mind you, the death attributed to the Dachshund was a joint effort with a Labrador. But watch your ankles!!! The dachsies are gonna' get you.

I said My dogs are well behaved so they dont annoy others Or me, not that I do better then anyone else, you read it that way for yourself. So what could come back and bite me in the butt then? I wouldnt have a dog if they couldnt be trained, you cant train chickens so I dont have any see? You are taking my comments personally and hurting your own feelings, relax, I do what I do because people like a good dog in their neighborhoods and I like a well behaved dog. The one I have now isnt so sociable because we got her as nearly an adult so we couldnt just take her to any park and expect her not to react to finding many dogs running around so we have other plans so she doesnt become a Diesel if you know about that story. She is big and is a heavy pull if she wants to be but she is a damn good dog. She will bark because someone she doesnt know is here and will stop once they leave but she doesnt bark not even once for no reason.
I cant say thats better then anyone around my neighborhood,,, there isnt one dog that barks around here seriously. I hear one in back of my place, he barks about 5 to 10 times maybe a few more but he is inside shortly after a speil of repetitious barks and there is one the other way that barks, sounds like he is barking at someone walking by his yard but it ends shortly after he has exersized his lungs on someone for a few mins.
Pretty good if ya ask me,,, cant say I am better then anyone around here but I can say I love my neighborhood and am not a bad part of it. My dogs have always been penned in the back side or far side of my houses, never to be able to run to the front of my property,,, always had a good pen and the public is safe from them,,, PM for my address if you like, I have told no lies... You would stand on my street and hear some cars go by, come in my yard and my dog would hear you and speak up about it and when you leave or I come out to you she will shut up, you wont even see her unless I let you right into my yard and bring you to her gates. She has a huge runner at the back where she can burn energy as well when we cant take her out and her pen is our privately hidden hang out spearatly from the run so she rarely spends any time there alone unless we are at the sitting area out near the driveway which is only when company comes and she can run inside th house and out as she pleases from her pen. Now thats good but I have seen better,,, I dont compete, I make it as easy as I can for Me,,, dont have to walk out to pee my dog, she never worries when we would let her back in and she has no reason to make a loud annoying noise. Plus we train with treats and a water squirter if needed in the beginning. Once you have shot a dog a few times with water a simple Psssst! will remind them not to do things they shouldnt. Isnt owning a dog about loving everything about them? Like good behaviour? Better then everyone else,,, I think not,,, enjoying my dog like probably most do,,, yes...
