you really believe that?
he was replaced before he was cold.
no different than all the hype the police post when the bust a big drug ring or the hells angles.
it never creates a lack of drugs or crime on the streets.
they just open the door for new criminals to make money.
does anyone really think crime has dropped with the bacon brothers gone?
its just a way to keep police and judges and lawyers making money.
solve the issues dont just keep making new career openings in the drug trade.

The ultimate irony is that a lot of gang money is put into commercial developments like hotels ...

Keith - maybe so, I don't have a good criminal mind. Shopping mind, I'm your girl but I really don't get the lure of the gangster Life - always looking over your shoulder

The gang money thread is rattling around somewhere, maybe someone can resurrect it.

And as for "who dunnit' is it really that big of a mystery?

If Dhak was recievings from the RCMP every second week, where were those warnings coming from anyways?

And why was he in a hotel lobby again?
Someone texted him and said, "we have to talk"?

Business? Who was waiting for him in what room? Isn't that why one goes into a lobby?

And for a guy on trial at the moment, no one was tailing him?

Somethings very fishy with this story.

All they had to do was keep this guy in freaking jail. It's not like someone had to build a new jail for him. Now instead of keeping Dhak in jail, three cheap meals and a escort to the court and back, we've got huge resources devoted to an endless who-dunnit.

He posted bail to get out. His choice, his risk. Why should we pay to keep him locked up? As to the resources that will now be devoted to the who dunnit.......maybe we should compare that cost to the ten years of housing and feeding him after conviction that we now do not have to. A little callous perhaps but I'm glad we are not feeding this scum. Live by the sword, you die by the sword.

Queen, it may well be that he wasn't going to the hotel for a meet. He could have been a guest that was leaving. Maybe he thought a hotel would be safer than staying at home? The news story does not indicate. If I recall the Bacon hit in Kelowna, he was staying at the hotel and leaving when hit.

I don't recall anyone saying Bacon was staying at the Grand.

Queen K wrote:He was "currently on trial". How many well known gangsters currently ON TRIAL get their freedom to run around, hither thither to hotel lobbies?

Of course this was set up. What could have been the alternative? It's not like some hitman accidentally saw him and made an impromptu decision to go for it.

A camera was found at the bottom of some stairs.

Well. What kind of camera? Was it a hotel security camera? A guests camera (where they dropped it and ran?), what's on it? I'd like to see that downloaded on a hard drive.

I'd like to know how many hotels knowingly take gang money. Didn't Surrey have a big publicity drive a few years ago? "Just say NO to gang money."

On trial does not mean that he's convicted or guilty.

In jail for being charged with a crime?

Seriously, if he was, you would have started a thread saying that we are infringing on his rights because he isn't guilty yet.

You are right gram, he wasn't a guest. But the media hasn't said the Burnaby victim was or wasn't either yet.

According to Kim Bolan from the Vancouver Sun, Sukh Dhak [the victim] is believed to have been going there for a meeting:
Dhak and Mantel, who both lived in Surrey, were believed to have gone to the busy Burnaby hotel to meet someone. Dhak was free because his trial was adjourned for the day.

I'm as interested as the rest of you in knowing who he was meeting with.
