As I read this today I couldn't help but wonder if anyone esle thought it was a ridiculous idea. How laughable. What a waste of taxpayers money and a serious joke to criminals.

Maybe you want to correct your headline. From what I read it appears Abbotsford Police are sending out the cards. The last time I checked Abbotsford had a municipial police force and were not RCMP as your title suggests.

Pretty funny. Who says cops don't have a sense of humor.

I thought it was hilarious - who knows, maybe one naughty person will have second thoughts. Anybody actually complain yet? (apart from here of course).

I rather like the tongue-in-cheek approach with an offer to help included. Kudos.

Yes, my mistake. Either way though I still think its a waste of time and money.

Anyone who has spoken out against my numerous posts pointing out the militarization of our civilian police forces should really pay attention to the automatic assault rifle and military uniform that Santa is sporting.

Unjustifiable arms race. The police are not at war with anyone, let alone the citizens of Canada.

It's all about imaging. It seems that is the image of the police in today's standards - a paramilitary organization. Not a officer in uniform, a solider. It really is a telling situation considering they chose the image and this was more about telling the media as it was telling the criminals they are being watched.

The Vancouver PD has a Armored Personnel Carrier for when the crackheads on Main get rowdy and set up a hardened .50 Cal bunker, and now the Abbotsford PD has Santa-soldiers ready to fight a fictitious war - just sayin. It's a media blitz and that is my take on it.

Meh, I don't see anything wrong with the cards. They're probably the only ones inmates will be getting for christmas too!

I've been arguing hard with all the hanging judging on these here castanet forums always wanting to fine this and jail that as if punishment was the only was to fight crime... Hate the crime not the criminal, how many of these young people breaking in and stealing. dealing drugs, robberies and committing other crimes just need a break, one person to make a change?

oh ya Gramma Freddy will say they know right from wrong but sleep hard for a week, eat out of garbage cans, withdraw from a narcotic with no help... see if you still understand right from wrong.

Christmas cards a re fantastic idea, whoever thought of it deserves a slap on the back and a extra donut at coffee.... maybe a xmas bonus too

Actually I'm with GrammaFreddy, only I believe convicted criminals should live exactly like my senior clients did when they were growing up.

Two bedrooms, nine people per shack on the praries, one outhouse and an Eatons Catalogue for TP. Oh, and farm yer own food cuz a Sysco truck is not showing up. And sorry, bug spray was not invented back then, and oh ya, everyone bathed once a week, if lucky. Who's the tough guy now?

As for the phone number for getting out of a life of crime, that is a good idea.
