Family Day
As a local business owner that has always treated his employees well, I am not looking forward to working Monday nor paying out for another Stat in this economy. Just saying...

Re: Family Day
I think there are more people than you who welcome this.
Suck it up. Cost of doing business.
If you don't like it that much sell your business and become a worker and enjoy the day off with pay.

Can understand the OP's point for sure and it is only a provincial holiday so not everyone is getting the day off.

Truths can be backed up by facts - do you have any?

Re: Family Day
I think a February holiday is a great idea. I'm surprised the NDP didn't do it 10 years ago.
The joys of being your boss mean like farming you gotta be there.
I do agree its odd the liberals brought it forward, but then again they screwed over the
Small business person by revoking the HST.

Would you not be working the Monday normally ? You could always move your business to Manitoba, no family day in that fine province. Or just close for the day.

I agree w OP. Another hit to the small business owner/operator. And to all you "national socialists" (well, in this case provincial socialists) who say "spread the wealth"...I don't see YOU risking YOUR cash in a small business. Such days kill the small business owner.

Re: Family Day
well... all business owners are rich, they can afford it.
all business owners screw their staff anyway, they deserve to pay for another holiday.
All staff deserve a day off with pay or a day at time and a half.
all customers deserve to pay 1 1/2 times the going rate on that day as a result
its all a write off anyway
Increase minimum wage, they can afford it, oh they will just raise prices anyway. Yeah, my customers love the idea of a 30% rise in prices to keep up with the 30% increase in minimum wage, it just makes sense.
its only one day, suck it up (and so is christmas, new years day, and canada day, queen victorias birthday, bc day, labour day, thanksgiving, remembrance day... have i forgotten any?)
business owners are rich anyway (just like future shop, eatons, little caesars on the westside, zellers, wok box, pappa roasters, etc etc, etc, etc... damn what a racket, lemme in on this).
business owners just sit back and rake it in. yep, did that on that last week I worked less than 80 hours...hmm, actually no.
I own a small business. I am not rich. I work hard, ridiculously so. I never ask my staff to work harder than me. I make the same amount as you, probably much much less. I work twice as hard. This was my choice. Leave me alone, go back to your lives.
I appreciate my staff, do not screw them over. Give up profit to keep them happy. I work not just for myself, or my staff, but for my country and my economy. I get the big picture.
Nobody owes me anything, I am not entitled to anything.
I care.
I am not alone. In fact I can bet there are many, many business owners that get this.
You want a part of this.. go ahead open a small business. The banks are just lined up waiting to loan you the money to do it (sorry, cannot hold back my laugh), no? Oh your family and friends will gladly loan you the money. Obviously because you will be a business owner you will be rich and you will pay them back 5X their money in the first year.
Bring on the poor me comments. Bring on the...well you chose this comments. Bring on the you are an idiot to open a business in this economy comments. Everyone is an expert. Of course they are, because they have opened, built up and been soooo succesful.
Go back to your mc jobs, your professional jobs, your retirements and move on. If you have not experienced the canadian dream of being a small business owner, you do not know the joy of being part of the economy, as opposed to being a drain. I get NO special benefits, NO special deductions. I work, I contribute, I sacrifice. And I am DAMN proud of it.

A paid stat on Valentines Day would for some of us just mercilessly grind in the fact that we are loved by nobody. It would be like pouring acid onto our lonely, lifeless loins. Like carpet bombing our already barren and abused nether regions. A boot to the crotch, reminding us of every dark woman who ever ripped our pretty red hearts in two.
Well, that and Valentines Day rarely falls on a Monday.
