Restaurant drops 'albino' beer after name deemed offensive
Albino Rhino beer will no longer be served at a British Columbia restaurant chain after a human rights tribunal deemed the name offensive.
Earls Restaurant has been carrying its exclusive ‘Albino Rhino’ beer brand for 25 years, which was named after the rare white rhinoceros. But after April 24, the restaurant says the word ‘albino’ will be removed from all of its branding.
A Vancouver woman who was born with albinism brought the case to the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal, arguing that the branding was offensive -- and the tribunal agreed.

What a joke. Too bad it costs so much to appeal

Human rights tribunals really need to get removed from existence.
Just because 1 person gets all uppity about something isn't a rightful case for change. If there was a few thousand people mad at Earls over this then I can see it being looked at but if there isn't that much outrage perhaps it's only you that's offended and not the beer itself.
I find these tribunals offensive to my life, should I file a case that they abolish themselves due to that offence?
Or perhaps if people really mean it, they could be personally liable for any costs associated with their complaint. Maybe if people found out they might lose their house for perusing something they'd realize they weren't that offended to start with.

Un-freaking-believable.
Well, perhaps not so unbelievable - our entire government is run by complete morons.

That would be like getting offended by the name "Mr. Big and Tall" if you're big or tall. The BC Human Rights Tribunal is just as guilty of complete idiocy as the idiot who complained.

This might add a little perspective:

Not hard to imagine folks with albinism running into bullying and other issues just because they're different.

Big people, blind people, and Chinese people might get bullied, yet we have Mr. Big and Tall, The Blind Angler Restaurant, and the Chinese Laundry Restaurant right here in the valley. The horror!

This is about as bad as the Afro Americans complaining about the term "Throwing money into the preverbal black hole".
They became upset over that hundred year old saying as it was a negative connotation towards blacks.
I shake my head, next Mr. Webster will have to re-write the English version of his dictionary.
I would not have changed it, sorry read the dictionary.

I abhor bullies ... no one should be bullied ... but to ban the name of a beer ??
This might be the beginning of a trend.
So many people are being bullied, short, tall, fat, skinny, race and even nerds ...
How many products should be banned .. Short Ribs, Black Magic Chocolate,French Canadian Pea Soup, Big Mac, Nerds candy ... to name a few ..
And how about this one ..

What a crock. Those human rights tribunals have to go. Their decisions and even the cases that they take seriously have made a mockery of genuine human rights.
