A woman was tracked down and arrested after someone robbed the Big Eddy Market Tuesday morning.

Police said a woman brandishing a saber entered the store and robbed the lone employee of the proceeds from the cash register.

As she left, the employee gave chase while a customer called the police. Someone else took up the chase until police eventually arrived and took over. They pursued the woman until she attempted to hide inside a home.

Police secured the residence and arrested the woman. The stolen money and saber were recovered.

Vince Sessa, the owner of the Big Eddy Market, said the woman was covered up to conceal her identity and was carrying a fairly large sword. "It was enough to hurt somebody," he said.

He said it was a scary situation and he was glad nobody got hurt. The amount taken was a few hundred dollars.

"I wasn't worried about the money," he said.

No one was injured during the incident and the RCMP thanked those who helped track the woman until police arrived. Victim Services is working those involved.

A 32-year-old is now being held in custody until she appears in court.

Another typically Canadian story about Canadian Citizens working together, and later with the police to eliminate criminal behavior from our community. The victim and those who helped out are to be congratulated on their willingness to become involved and do what was required under the circumstances. There should be a place within the Order of Canada and the Order of British Columbia for all such exemplary citizens of this wonderful country.

Gimme a freaking break.
I'm willing to bet you two both overuse the word "hero" as well.
If everybody that done what we all should do on any given day of the week, we'd all have a bucket of worthless medals.
It's great that people were willing to "chase" the large enough to hurt someone sword wielding female ninja posing twisted mess...but that's as far as that needs to go.
Wanna give them fine citizens what they deserve?
Give them a hand shake and a bit of thanks.
Don't call them "hero" or hand them a shiny medal as neither of those would be warranted.

Did i call them hero's?...NO....when was the last time you help catch someone like this(run after them, knowing they had a weapon)? A hero in my books is someone that fights for Canada and it's freedoms.

Then YOU should offer up a reward.
Don't expect the rest of the country to take your side.

Let us know when you're done "coining' the new medal.
I'd really like to see it.

My oh My, you really woke up on the wrong side of the bed today, i NEVER said give them medals, the only ones that deserve medal are our Military Personnel protecting our country.

You really are a negative person, as i have seen in your other posts on the forum, chill out and lose some of your negativity towards everything. Try putting a :) on your face.

I'm as positive as I can handle.
Positive that you're overstating the value of these fine citizens.
Putting everyone that does what they should on a proverbial pedestal devalues the real deserving lot we have among us.

Well it seems like you are not handling it too well, and i am not overstating the value of what they done. They will get recognition from the city of Revelstoke, not the province or the country. They might even get a certificate of appreciation from the rcmp. I do not expect them to get it from the province or country though.(it's just a local issue)

Civilians honoured for assisting police in Kelowna

Mar 19, 2013 / 4:00 pm

Two civilians were honoured yesterday (Tuesday) with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Officer in Charge of the Kelowna RCMP for their part in helping to apprehend a robbery suspect last summer.

Supt. Bill McKinnon presented the award to Jane Hahn and Sean Hansson Tuesday morning in a private ceremony at the Kelowna RCMP Detachment.

With their help last August, police were able to quickly track down and apprehend a bank robbery suspect minutes after the offence occurred.

The suspect had held up the Royal Bank on Cooper Road.

Police were also able to recover an imitation firearm and stolen cash.

Brian Christie Miranada is charged with Robbery, Disguise with Intent and Use Imitation Firearm in Commission of Offence.

While I understand and agree with you that we should not devalue those who go above and beyond on a routine basis, I think it's equally as ridiculous to fail to pay respects to those who act above and beyond in a less-than routine basis.
Come quickly Jesus, we're barely holding on.
