BCTF Pres Susan Lambert quits.

Post by NAB »

VANCOUVER - The president of the B.C. Teachers Federation is stepping down, but not before firing some parting shots in defence of teachers.

Susan Lambert has been a sharp critic of the Liberal government, continually accusing the Liberals of underfunding education and violating teacher's rights.

In a new release announcing she'll step down at the end of the 2013 school year, Lambert says teachers feel a responsibility more than ever to speak out for a quality public education system.

She says no matter which party is in government, the union must press for better teaching and learning conditions that meet the diverse needs of students.

Lambert's successor will be chosen at the Federation's annual meeting in Vancouver, which begins Saturday.

The convention will also discuss education funding, collective bargaining and political action it may take during the provincial election campaign in May.

I actually think this is a good thing. Her standard argument has always been one of confrontation and anger, never cooperation and solutions.

However, this doesn't meant that the next person to take the mantle will be any different considering the last person to suggest they take a less confrontational approach was summarily drummed out of the head office and councils.

My immediate question is why did she quit? As far as I know, this is right out of the blue as of minutes ago and there have been no signals as to it coming. And the BCTF annual meeting starts tomorrow?

Glad to see her gone! The teachers I know and have talked to can't stand her and couldn't understand how she got elected in the first place.
My Wife asked me if I knew what her favorite flower was?
Apparently "Robin Hood All Purpose" was the wrong answer!

I remember looking some weeks ago and noticing that she wasn't going to run. Looking at the BCTF website again it looks like there is only one candidate for president and that's Jim Iker (he belongs to the same "coalition" group as Susan Lambert I believe).

Iker. So it looks like it may be a coronation rather than an election.

proving once again that teachers are either too lazy or too busy (those who consider themselves moderates) to bother running for office in their own union.

stop whining, teachers!
