Come on ladies! Turn the lights on!

Post by omisimaw »

What does it take to get the message out there? It is not safe to walk alone, late at night at UBC these days. Until they get this issue figured out dummy up ladies, buddy up when you are out walking home! Or get escorted! Or stay in but do something to protect yourself and be proactive... this is very disturbing

Your blame is entirely misplaced here.

Blame? I see no blame. That post is the same thing as telling your kids to look both ways before they cross the street.

I see the blame here...it is not even close to telling your kids to look both ways before crossing the street...a woman should be able to walk at night without being accosted...not all circumstances allow for an escort or buddy system...see you back on Earth Granny...

There is some validity in the original post, although it does seem to blame the victims. There is an old adage "Trust in God, but tie up your donkey". We have to use our brains to protect ourselves, but not allow fear to rule our lives.

What a woman should be able to do and what is the reality of what is happening are two different things. I see that post as more of a warning/reminder to keep yourself safe given the current circumstances.

I agree, but do not like dummy up ...it's insulting the way I read it. Yes be aware, be more vigilent, not dummy up.

Yes Catz we know you are always ready to point out what you think is an insult..... but it is a dummy up situation, absolutely! Pay attention to what is happening and it is no threat or blame at all...
Listen to the authorities... they have been warning about this from the beginning and now we see 3 weeks later and 2 more accosted...

If people do not want to heed the advise of authorities so be it. They are then the vulnerable ones.
Interesting, 17 year old female, walking alone after midnight, in area where there are assaults going on
Parents? Guess no one to buddy up with. No one to call to come get you, even though you are a minor and really should not be out alone ... male or female .... at that time of the night.
One name comes to mind about walking alone, Jennifer Cusworth!

Cross a roadway and expect traffic. Cross a campus an expect to be assaulted? Same thing for sure.

I am glad this thread has garnered some attention.
That was the whole point of it.
In the busy lives of young people and teenagers these days not many are listening to or reading the local news.
Word gets around fast on campus but it seems it is not being taken seriously ....
If there is a bear in your yard, you do not take that moment in time to take the garbage out....

REMIND the kids to look both ways before crossing. REMIND the young ladies to pay attention to what's happening around them instead of submersing their hearing and sight in their i-whatevers, to try to not walk alone at night.

Same same. But keep twisting if you like. Sheesh.

Well, there shouldn't be blame, first off.
Second, it is an insult.
Third, it can happen anywhere.

If I were to want to have an effective conversation with someone, I don't believe throwing insults at them will accomplish that.
People should be aware, should be more careful, keep a better eye out,

Blame? For what, where is there any blame?
Catz wrote:Second, it is an insult.

People are getting hurt and you think it an insult
Catz wrote:Third, it can happen anywhere.

BUT it is happening at UBC and it is a real issue!
Again, people are getting hurt!

and you think telling 17 year old females walking alone in an active area of attacks after midnight to dummy up is an insult?

Not only do these CHILDREN need to smarten up but so do their parents.

The consequences of not taking this seriously and not taking the advise of the authorities to heart is far more insulting!
