Ok possibly we don't have the same definition of dummy up
Dummy up means to shut up.
In this context it doesn't fit as anything other than an insult

Are you frigging kidding me? Do you actually read what you post?
I quoted what you wrote, twist it any way you want...those were and are YOUR words!!!!!
Clearly you do not want to discuss rather than play word games.
Carry on.

Ok, more specifically in our circles it means smarten up not shut up....

But I am glad the post has attracted attention.

That was and is still the main focus.

Like it or not the message has to get out until they have this guy in custody.

How that is done, or how YOU perceive it is not important one bit, unless of course you are a female, or family member of a female, that would fit the target scenario at UBC......

If people fail to heed the warnings then they are taking a gamble with their well being if not their life.

Ok yea I figured it was a definition issue.
for most people the definition is "shut up".... So you can see why some people found that section of your post a tad disparaging.
But yes, the reason why police issue warnings is the hopes that people will find a way to reduce their risk until the perpetrator is caught. And lets hope that happens soon.

Will there ??

Or are they the ones who may have ,at least , some hope for humanity AND refuse to live their lives in fear ???

There is a diference in living in fear and living smart. No one here is suggesting anyone live in fear, but it does make sense to be smart and take precautions. Do you lock your door at night? We do and it's not because we live in fear but because it is the sensible thing to do.
Consider how hard it is to change yourself and you'll understand what little chance you have of changing others.

Although it seems like one should be able to compare locking your door with avoiding sexual assault it's actually not an accurate comparison.
Now if you compare, never leaving your house unattended with doing things to avoid sexual assault then you might be onto something.

So then what is your advice to these young ladies if it is not to take sensible precautions. How do you suggest they not become the next statistic.

Better yet what advice would you give your 17 year old daughter.

Carry pepper spray, a loud whistle, brass knuckles, a hat pin and wear steel toes running shoes!

For this particular spree that's happening at UBC (or anytime there is a serial sexual assault criminal in the area.)
The cops should set the guy up to be caught. Undercover wired up bait female cop being monitored until she gets a hit.

Telling people to never walk alone at night is unrealistic if you're trying to live your life.
I read an interview with one woman who lives on campus and she's asked her boss to drive her home until this guy is caught... which is fine as a temporary measure.

Both my daughters took advance self defence courses. I also provided them with weapons.(that is way more like comparing locking your door to rape)

No I think most people would think the weapons and training over the top
but being a victim myself, I NEVER wanted my kids to go through that EVER

Some of the ones interviewed were freaked out.
The head of campus security was also on. This is a small community that is equipped with many tools for those that live or travel on campus at all hours. It has always been there but some do not know it is or how it actually works.
He said the word was getting out and the females were starting to use it.
One girl who did for first time because of this said it is a great service but very busy. It took 10 minutes for her escort to get to her. I would think that is pretty good when it can take a lot longer to get a cab.
One girl said she was thinking of getting pepper spray. Problem with that approach is that it an backfire if you are overtaken, especially from behind!
Self defense training is absolutely a good suggestion, but not everyone is in shape to pull it off for one thing and some people are just not of the aggressive type.... they are the want to talk it out types for instance.
