Question, and Jo I know you will pick up on this ...

If the guy was flying a plane, why was he texting a friend to call the RCMP? Maybe the friend did not make contact or pass on the message properly or at all!

But he would have a radio onboard and be in direct contact with the tower at Kamloops at all times who would be able to patch him through to RCMP or put him in immediate direct contact with a member from the airport ....

Texting while in flight is as dangerous as texting while driving and has been linked to fatalities.... http://news.Castanet.com/8301-17852_3-57578636-71/pilots-texting-at-issue-in-fatal-crash-of-medical-helicopter/

This guy is a complete crack pot. Yet another story from this year:

100 Mile House rancher solves trespassing case, but claims he can't get RCMP to investigate
Last Updated: May 25, 2016 1:00 PM PT

100 Mile Ranch manager Greg Messner is frustrated by what he calls 'RCMP inaction' on serial trespassing where dirt bikers and ATV'ers leave ranch gates open for cattle to escape.

Messner has spent thousands of dollars in surveillance equipment to catch and identify trespassers coming onto his ranch near 100 Mile House B.C.

According to Messner, he's filmed and tracked down trespassers in two incidents, but can't get the local RCMP to intervene.

"It's very frustrating," he said.

[...]

According to Messner dirt bikers and ATV'er cost him thousands of dollars in damages each year by running over irrigation pipes and leaving gates open for cattle to escape.

In one case mature bulls escaped into an area with a group of heifers who were too young to be bred.

"You end up with a bunch of heifers that have been bred by the wrong bulls and you can lose them. They'll die during birth," he said.

"If you are lucky you can get them in a stock trailer and take them up to Williams Lake and have a C-section done on them and hopefully save both animals."

Riiiiight.

Because heifers are generally smaller than cows, they have an increased risk of dystocia.

Causes of Dystocia

The most common causes of dystocia are maternal/fetal disproportion, abnormal position of the calf during delivery, incomplete dilation of the cervix, uterine inertia (the uterus will not contract, or becomes “exhausted”), uterine torsion, twins, and abnormal fetuses.

Currently in the U.S., the most significant cause of dystocia is maternal/fetal disproportion. This is a condition when the calf is too large for the female to deliver without difficulty. Heifers are at the greatest risk of maternal/fetal disproportion. Current recommendations to maximize profitability and decrease dystocias are to calve heifers at 24 months of age. Calving heifers at 24 months of age minimizes the feeding expenses associated with developing heifers while keeping the heifers calving during the same calving season as the mature cows. Well-managed and properly grown heifers will only be 85 percent to 90 percent of mature cow size at 24 months of age and not have as much room in their pelvis (birth canal) as do mature cows; however, underdeveloped heifers may only be 60 percent the size of mature cows and are at much greater risk of dystocia.

There are two factors to consider with maternal/fetal disproportion: the size of the dam at calving, and the size of the calf.
