Cig butt recycling in Van BC
Vancouver is launching a pilot program to recycle cigarette butts in an effort to clean up one of the most pervasive types of urban trash.
As part of the program, 110 receptacles to collect butts will be mounted on posts around the city's downtown.
The butts will be collected by employees from the city's Downtown Eastside, who will take them to United We Can, which already runs a recycling depot for bottle collectors.
"We've heard loud and clear that people want easy and convenient ways to keep our downtown streets and public spaces clean," said Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson.

It only works if smokers put their butts in them.
As WW3 develops, no one is going to be dissing the "preppers." What have you done?

And what happens to the left over tobacco from the recycling. Will we finally have "recycled" cigarettes?
I think if there are enough of the receptacles you will get the bulk of cig butts. Most smokers I've known don't tend to litter if there's an option. I recall a resort I went to once and at least every 10-15 feet was a garbage can/light/ashtray and people always used it for garbage and butts, most people usually choose decently with good options. (there will still always be the odd jerk but that is never preventable)

Which in turn creates another recycling challenge
