Non photo 'government' issued ID?

Post by A_Britishcolumbian »

i got a friend, thinking of flying from bc to another locale within bc.

canada says a single piece of 'government' issue photo id will suffice. is this true in your experience?

they also two pieces of 'government' issue non-photo id will suffice. is this true in your experience?

i can only think of a SIN card and a birth certificate that is government issued. what other non-photo 'government' issued id is there?

Identification for Domestic Flights

For a boarding pass to be issued by an air carrier, passengers on domestic flights within Canada who appear to be 18 years of age or older must present either of the following types of identification:

A piece of valid, government-issued identification that includes a photograph and the passenger’s name, date of birth and gender, or
Two pieces of valid, government-issued identification without photographs showing the passenger’s name, date of birth and gender.

How about a Care Card? No photo on it.

Major credit card sometimes serves as non-photo ID.

Maybe a BC medical card... If they have an old one

Credit cards are not government issued, hard to see that passing..

BC MSP cards are now being added to your DL cards, so that takes care 2 birds with 1 stone.

Passport is Government issued

Only if you want them on one card, you can still have a separate msp card if you'd like.

i am stumped, birth certificate and SIN are all i can think of that meet the 'government' issued non-photo requirement.

a library card is missing required info.

msp cards have a photo.

I would call the airline and ask what they suggest.

Interestingly, the Government of Canada website has a different requirement:

Airlines are required to screen all passengers who appear to be 18 years of age or older before boarding all flights originating from or destined for Canada in order to identify individuals who may pose a threat to aviation security.

Before boarding, you must present to your airline:

One piece of valid government-issued identification that includes a photograph and the passenger's name, date of birth and gender;
OR
A Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC) (a smart card issued to airport workers).

The name on the identification that is provided must match the name on the boarding pass.

http://travel.gc.ca/travelling/air/identification-requirements

In all my years of flying I don't think I've ever seen anyone try to board a plane without picture ID.

It appears your friend needs to get photo friendly then.
