Time to fire some judges

Post by westbankkid »

It gets pretty bad when some Provincial court judges take it upon themselves to circumvent federal law. In Prince George and othe jurisdictions, they are manipulating fines so offenders don't pay a Federal Victim services fine. The money goes to help the victims of crime.
If it was me I would fire the B*****ds and replace them with judges that obey the law.
It's about time the VICTIMS were looked after and not the criminals as a lot of judges do..
Maybe it's time to start electing judges and then get rid of them when they don't do their job..

“Can you imagine being a person who’s got mental illness, who lives under the local underpass, at the hospital or on a park bench, who eats at the soup kitchen, and you’re going to have them pay $100 because they had their day in court?”

Good for the judges for not bowing to flavor-of-the-month political pressure.

Appears quite a few judges have compassion and are using a little common sense.
Truths can be backed up by facts - do you have any?

Yes, I think we need more compassion towards our criminals. It's those damn victims who need to be taught a lesson.

That's NOT what I said or implied. How do YOU expect to extract monies from those with mental illness living under a bridge.

Frankly I don't really care.

Did the criminal, lets say before he stole the property of the victim, assess if the victim could afford to loose the property ?

Did the criminal before he attacked and injured the victim assess that the victim had a support system and sick pay to replace his/her ability to earn a living or care for themselves ?

They get punished for the crime they committed if they are found guilty and pay a victim surcharge.

The Judges are not letting people get away with things or the punishments for their crimes. When a person cannot pay the additional "politically added-on" victim surcharge they have to do jail time, which directly is criminalizing poverty. The Judges are refusing to do that.

This is a great example of why we should not have elected judges. The Honorable Pat Duffy, residing.

So the guy in the article who stole $9 worth of chocolate bars should be fined $100 or $200 or "given a public spanking?"

Good grief!

You've ignored the most obvious option,,, if you don't want to pay the victim surcharge, DON'T DO THE CRIME.

Really, how much more lenient do you want our courts to be ? Apologize for dragging the criminal to court, pay him/her for their lost wages, (ya, right) send them home in a taxi.
