I believe it depends greatly on your age and driver history. If I remember right when my son moved here from AB, young with a poor record he saved money. Many times private insurance won't even insure poor drivers. That might be a good thing, no insurance, no licence.

Thats the point. Why do drivers with a flawless record have to pay for drivers that have a poor record? Socialism is alive and well in BC even under liberal rule.

What's funny is that ICBC is well defended on this board. This same board also have lots of love for the NDP - not.

I think BC's population is simply feeling comfortable & secure wearing their old socks, and they don't know what they're missing out because they never had a different option...

... Until you force them to try a different pair and then they'll say: "why didn't we switched before, these are so much more comfortable".

Maybe the difference in opinions comes from the group, bad or good records that people are in. With the driving I witness around here I am led to believe there are a high number of drivers with bad records. Myself I haven't had a ticket or accident in decades, have checked rates in both BC and AB with no real difference. Probably because I drive older vehicles.
By driving older reliable vehicles I save much more money than I ever could on insurance. Therefore it really doesn't matter to me.
